paint problem mystery
I recently noticed two blemishes on the roof of my black H3. They are quite different and I don't know how long they've been there (well, at least <1year, the last time I washed it). Got any ideas the cause of them?
The first is near the front edge, passenger side and looks like the paint just disintegrated in a shotgun pattern; the surface is very smooth. I presume the grey showing is primer. Should I worry about this getting worse? https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...241c58da56.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...a965341748.jpg The second is on the same side as the first but about a foot back and looks like something rusted, but I don't know how anything metal could be stuck there long enough to rust. (I drive it daily.) You can see a similar thing next to it on the plastic trim. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...2e0adbb08a.jpg Sorry for the blurry pictures. I can't get any camera to focus on something close up. |
Linex the roof.

Why Line-X it vs repaint it? Just to make it forever durable? Are these kinds of problems common on H3 roofs?
It looks like the paint is really, really thin on this vehicle... |
Looks like your H3 had a repaint to me.

My black roof had some hail damage and some paint crazing, to repair and repaint the roof was going to be a couple of thousand dollars+
I use roof racks in the winter to throw snowboards / skis on, so instead I had the roof and hood Linex'ed - was around $500 for the two. Looks good, virtually impossible to damage, and hail will never be an issue again. Probably going to get the brush guard and runners done too.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hum...f38c5256e2.jpg |
