OnStar in working with law enforcement can now stop or slow down your car if stolen or in pursuit!

Big Brother moves forward on all 2009 models.[:'(] They say this will assist law enforcement. I can verify that the Detroit PD needs all the help they can get. :D

I really don't mind the OnStar big brother because I can always choose to pull the OnStar plug anytime I wish if it bothers me. What I hope will happen if they do this is the highway robbers at State Farm will cut me a break on my insurance! So far,I love OnStar even though I rarely ever use it.

We have two smillar systems in Israel (One is called ITURAN and the other is called POINTER). They are not like the ONSTAR that gives you also diagnostics etc. They do only one thing, If the car has been stolen, the company operating these systems, can remotley stop the car.

All models since 2000, have one of those systems installed, since you want be able to get a full car insurance for it.

But everyone I know (including myself) would have avoided these systems because of a very simple issue:

Like any electronic device, it does not work from time to time, and what happnes is that sometimes you can not turn the car on because of this system, and you have to wait for a technical person to arrive to your car in order to fix the problem.

My advice
Iinstall any diagnostic tool you can (Like ONSTAR)
Avoid any system that connects to your ignition system and that can disable it without any way for you to bypass it

I'm kinda new here, so i hope i don't sound dumb right off....I could be wrong, but it seems like you could snap the mini antenna off the roof and disable the onstar? Or is this wrong? I know when i had sirus if you went in a garage (or a bird dropped a turd on the antenna) it would stop working. Same concept of reception, right? I hate the thought of getting back a stolen vehicle anyway. Does anyone watch cops?! How could ur truck be the same after being driven thru a cornfield on 3 tires and a half burnt off rim?
