noise while braking

I am a new Hummer owner....2008 H3 Luxury package. 5 cylinder
Noticed yesterday that the right rear tire has a grabbing, almost grinding noise when I brake at times. Mostly when I brake hard. The pads seem to be in good shape and the rotor is smooth. Could this be coming from the parking brakes being adjusted to tight. And do the parking brakes work when you brake or only when you apply the parking brake?

Thanks for any help.

Go see your dealership. There was a problem with the way the rotors were turned and GM issued a bulletin about this. They will turn your rear rotors under warranty. I know it affected the '08's (mine included), but I'm not sure about other years.

Thanks Halo.
Will this be covered under my warranty? I have 65000 miles on my ride.
Also the nearest Hummer dealer is 100 miles away. Can I take it to a GM dealer or do I have to go to a Hummer dealer.

Brake chek

two tests i make when checking any car

1. stop an a slight grade, release brakes, you should drift, immediatly and freely,no drag.,,,in neutral of course!

2. drive 5-10 miles with no brakes, find a place you can slow down and coast to a stop,NO BRAKES, check temp of all rotors. slightly warm, not hot is ok. hot?,u got drag.

3. did i say 2?! if it pulls to right when braking, your left piston is stuck, the right brake works,vv.

ebrake ? so far IF i use mine i really do the above tests. being an old ford man i learned to NEVER use ebrakes. the cables drag. h3 is fine,,,so far

Thanks drtom.
I will try this when I get off work! When I brake hard it pulls to the left. If I apply very little
Brake it doesn't pull at all. As far as e brake I don't use it either. Just thought it could be dragging and causing the grabbing and rattling.
Thanks again for the input!

hi guys, i too feel a slight grind to a halt when braking in my 09 plated h3 luxury. do all hummer brakes feel like they are grinding when braking or is this a factory fault that needs to rectified

Broken Halo hit it on the nose! Its a rear brake issue! H3's have a rear brake system unlike I have ever seen, where it will apply more pressure to the rear to prevent nose dive, also the stabilitrack system kicks in on independent rear wheels. My opinion is that GM did not account for the amount of stress this would put on the rear brakes, thus installed crappy rear rotors and for sure crappy pads! Ive had the issue since I bought it and plan to change rotors and install ceramic pads when the time comes. Just my two cents!;)

I have the same issue with my 2009 H3. I think I'll take the advise of this group, and have the rear rotors checked. Problem seems to be only on rear right side.
