Default Noise Diagnosis

Since off-road trip last weekend I have noticed a strange beating noise (think shusch, shusch, shusch etc - like dirty bearings??) which occurs only when I let off the gas tocoast or slow down. The noise is only heard between 1500 and 1000 rpms (typical coasting rpms I guess) and seems to be transmission or drive shaft related. If I put the vehicle into neutral the noise dimishes significantly. If I drop back into drive (without accelerating - still coasting), the noise is enhanced. If I am accelerating I don't hear the noise. I played with the brakes thinking dirt or pebbles might be stuck on top of the calipers and grinding against inside wall of rims, but I don't think that is it. My best guess is dirt or grit got into the bearings of the front or rear drive shaft connections, dirt in CV joint(s) up frontor I knocked the transfer case putting front or rear drive shaft out of alignment.

Any ideas??

Also, if I did this damage while off-roading will the warranty cover repairs?

Thanks.
Andy

Can't say for sure, but that noise sounds like a inner CV joint. Take it to the dealer for them to check out. They should cover it.

No Drive Shafts damaged. The plate protecting the Transfer Case was bent up a bit but nothing out of the ordinary.

Sounds like the typical worn u-joint/cv-joint 'replacement required-type' noise...sans the 'clunking' sound when placing the transmission into gear. Name: 71ccd41c.gif

I thought I'd report back on this one.

I took the H3 to the dealer and after a full day of diagnosis, I just got the call that they will replace the front differential and see if the noise goes away.. Good to see that the GM warranty is good!!!

They had to replace my front diif too... but I had no noise ....no warning....broke 100 miles out of town and had to be towed....Warranty covered mine as well....mine pierced the casing, oil gushed out .....Hope that fixes your problem !
