Hey guys brand new to the board just joined today. I have a question i went to purchase a 2006 h3 yesterday and ran into an issue that maybe you guys can help me with. When i went to put it into the 4wd hi lock there was a grinding noise sounding kind of like gears grinding and it would not lock in hi. It would however lock into 4wd low. they took it to the shop and called me this morning and told me that a bracket had came loose and the metal transmission hoses came out of the bracket and were grinding against the front drive train? Has anyone had this problem or ever heard of this happening just trying to make sure i dont buy a LEMON!! we all know how dealers can be. thanks for any input....

Default ????

dont make sense so far
hoses? where,what?

trans?

the shift to lock mode is in the transfer case not the transmission.

id find a place to drive it safely in and out of lock mode,hi/lo for a good while

snow,grass,sand,etc, not dry pavement!

Yeah i was confused with their explanation also. I read where you commented on a board bros H3 not going out of 4wd hi lock just a min ago and his problem sounded just like what i had experienced with the grinding while turning and all. I wonder if its that plastic fork in the transfer case that has broke or gone out?

I live in Ga and we have had snow and ice earlier this week so when i did try to put it in 4wd it was on a snowy icy parking lot so the conditions were suitable..

Were you setting still or moving? On 06 you should be setting still with tranny in Nuetral to go 4wd low. You shift into 4wd hi on the go. Mine at times won't go into 4wd hi if setting still but never missed a time if rolling or moving.
