Newbie needs help!!!

I just purchased a 2002 H1 open top two weeks ago and I can't figure out what one of the switches on the dash goes to. I first thought it was for the winch but I tried it and the winch didn't turn on. Its located on the drivers right side closest to the center console area and is red with no markings on it. I will take a pick of it and post it. Also do h1s have a tendency of running hot on the high way?

A picture would be helpful - that may be an aftermarket switch.

It is not uncommon for Hummers to run hot on the highway, but they shouldn't; your radiator stack may need to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned, that is the most common cause for running hot on the highway.

What is hot? It is normal for them to run at 190-210 degrees. What temp. is yours running at? I agree with Manny. The red switch sounds like and aftermarket switch for something like off road lights. Your winch control should be a handset at the end of a wire that plugs into the winch itself. It is not uncommon for accessories like that to not come with a used truck.

I Agree with the other postClean you stack, but also with Summer time coming, you want to head off any over heating issues off at the pass.Check and clean your stack, Test your clutch fan, Change out your T-Stats, flush your cooling system, inspect your radiator shroud and change out your 5.00 radiator cap.Summer time on the side of the road "is not" the time to do the above."Rock on"

Thanks for the advice. I know its do for its 50000 mile service and from what I have heard sewell has a decent mechanic to work on h1s. It runs about a quarter away from the red on the high way

The 12000 mile service is a big one on the H1. It will take care of many of the things discussed here. Sewell is a great dealer. Tell the service writer what your concerns are and if possible have the H1 mechanic there so he can ask you whatever questions he has to understand what is going on with your truck. Congrats on the H1.
