new /used h3 questions
Ok guys , newbie here , the wife and i are looking to get a 06' or 07' H3 mostly for her to drive . I see model names like alpha etc . and i'm new to this hummer deal so help me out . Are they all pretty much the same as far as drivetrain? I have seen them listed as 4 wheel drive or as all wheel drive . Is there a differance ? Basically heres what shes looking for , a chrome optioned model with a moonroof and all the fancy leather options inside , like heated seats etc. Basically a nice factory pimped out model that will never see offroad , rides the best and gets the best fuel mileage . What model? am I looking for and what am I looking to stay away from ?? Thanks in advance ...
Here's the Hummer web site where you can find all the different model specs. These are for new ones but should be similar. http://www.hummer.com/hummerjsp/home.jsp
The Alpha is the 5.3 V8 instead of 3.7 I5. They are all 4x4 full time system which is also called all wheel drive. The adventure package is the offroad set up which has a little bigger tire, different shocks & some of the newer ones have locking differentials. I just got mine in Jan, I'm still learning also so I don't have to much more to offer. I would also read all the Hummer forums you can find & use the search feature as I'm guessing alot of your questions will have already been discussed

I will say that I have had my 2008 H3 since Jan and I love it. I am impressed with the gas mileage. Coming from another GMC truck to the Hummer that is, if I were going from a Honda Civic to the H3, maybe I wouldn't be impressed with the gas mileage.
I looked at all the H3 models, drove the leather package for three days and I did like it, hard to beat the heated seats. The leather package comes with upgraded floor mats and a higher grade stereo, leather shift **** and leather steering wheel. Power seats up front.
I have a 2008 base model with chrome mirrors, chrome tube steps and door handles.
You can get the Adventure package as mentioned above with leather, so you may look at one without knowing until you get adjusted to the differences and how to distinguish.
The H3 has All Wheel drive, but at the push of a button on the dash, you could place the H3 into 4wd High, much like a conventional 4wd vehicle. We get the best of both worlds, and we get another button to push for 4wd Low.
The sunroof for me is a must have, it opens the whole rig up and is comfortable with the sunroof open and all the windows on a warm day.
I like the late 2007 and newer H3 for a couple reasons. The 2007 has a little more Horse Power and torque, little more displacement too. Another creature comfort feature is the position of the power window buttons on the drivers door, the newer models place the buttons in front of you on the arm rest, not closer to where your elbow would be resting.
I drove tonight safely through some torrential rain and high winds, the all wheel drive, sitting high up, the suspension, great defroster system, and all the other safety equipment gave me a very solid and safe feeling.
The H3 is one well built vehicle, I wish more people knew how well they work.
Good luck with your search.

I called it both a grilleguard and brushguard because I saw it listed both ways ... If its a chrome brushguard you have to trade lemme now ... if not sorry for the confusion.... she wants all the chrome she can get on it .... It came with chrome mirrors wheels and door handles .... Just get one with the luxury package. That should have what your wife is looking for. You can add chrome until your heart is content if you find an H3 you like that is not chromed out. There is plenty of factory and aftermarket chrome out there to satisy taste light to grotesque.
AS NOTED ABOVE , I got one yesterday ........it has the luxury package , heated leather, moonroof , chrome door handles, chrome mirrors, chrome wheels , Yada Yada Yada , all the bells and whistles . It just has a black grilleguard , which i would rather have a chrome one ....
