has anyone ever heard of a different onboard computer? like one that shows more than just your odometer and shows mpg, etc.?

You can use a ScanGuage II to give you a lot more trip computer and monitoring capability.

You could get the Bullydog Whichdog sytem which I think is a hell of a lot better.

Is the BullyDog fully functional with the h3? or is there some data that wont work?

110% functional just plug into the OBD2 and that's it. Only thing that doesn't work is the Transmission temp due to not having a built in sensor.

Ended up buying the bullydog today! does anyone here know how to wire it to the fuse box so it come on when i turn the key?

If you dig around under the drivers dash chances are you will find an extra wire that is hot when the ignition is turn on/off. That is how I wired my aftermarket b/u camera.

Great!!!! I tap mine to the radio power wire if this helps?
