New H1 owner Help

I am a new H1 owner. How do I know if something is wrong with the glow plugs or the starter or anything else in a 1999 H1? A check engine light came on. I would turn the key, wait for the glow plugs, and start. No issues for a month. One day I turned the key waited for glow plugs and turned the key to start and CLICK. I did it again and let the glow plugs charge again and then it started. I thought it was the cold weather. It did that one more day and now the plugs charge but when I turn it over it's just a click. Both batteries are 2017(new).
Any suggestions?????

Apologize my husband said I did not give enough detail on the 1999' H1 6.5 Liter TBD. After the glow plugs finish clicking on/off and pump primes, when you turn the ignition the relay clicks only. Occasionally it sounds like the starter engages briefly (like a dead battery) but then on the next try just a click at the relay and nothing more. The batteries are good and there are good connections to everything. He says its probably the starter. Any help diagnosing is much appreciated.

It was was the starter.

If you got your starter rebuilt that would be the best option. If you went with the small starters make sure to install the support bracket on the tail end of the starter!
