Need some feedback after 4 days of ownership
It's only been 4 days of ownership of my 2006 H3. I bought it with 59,960 miles, clean car fax and no issues during the highway test drive and around town. Drove home 110 miles, ran great. Went back to the dealer the next night for a 220 mile round trip because I forgot the locking nuts for my wheels on my trade in.
So, close to 400 miles no problems.
On the way to work Wednesday morning, 12 mile commute, low tire light comes on, I figure I'll check the tires when I get to work....only 6 miles later, the light goes out. Does not show up on the way home.
Thursday, same thing when I first take off for work, at about the 6 mile mark the low tire icon goes off as well as the fuel cap msg. Neither warning light flashes back on while driving home after work.
Friday morning, as soon as I take off both the low tire light and fuel cap come on the DSI, with the low tire warning light staying on. When I checked the tires air pressure Wednesday night, all 4 tires were equal in pressure. Almost at the same place as the previous 2 mornings, both warning lights go off.
Friday afternoon as I take off for home, the check engine light does not go off. Continued my 12 mile commute with no problems, thinking it has something to do with my gas cap. Drove another 25 miles round trip to AutoZone to buy a new gas cap and the check engine light is still one.
I realize it might take a few trips for that check engine light to go off but wanted to write about my first 4 days to see what other owners think about all of this. I did a lot of research before buying this H3 so I am aware of some of the issues others have wrote about. Still, I must admit, my confidence is a little shaken about my purchase.
I have pushed the reset button while driving today after reading in the owners manual I should have done that after the other two messages, when I saw them.
Anyone else had similar issues?

I can't really comment about the check engine light, as that could be lots of things (hopefully something minor). I know it sometimes takes a while for codes to clear, and sometimes disconnecting the battery is the only way to clear them.
Congrats on the purchase and enjoy!

If you bought it NEW with 13 miles on it and then, 6 years and 60000 miles later you would expect to see some stuff come along. Since someone else put the first 60k on it you will need to see whats next. Hope the seller gave some warr?
Good luck, they are good vehicles. 60k huh.

The TPS system is crap to me. Mine can go on and off sometime too. In the morning when it's cool it will come on, then once it warms up it will go off.
System is stupid. If I ever get my ECU tuned I'm going to see if it's possible to get the whole tps system deleted out the computer. Or at least the low tire code taken out.

Thanks for the info. First time with 33" tires, just thought it was strange that it didn't happend the first couple of days but the mornings were a few degrees hotter when I went to work. I will wait a while for the engine light, new gas cap and a full tank of gas. Otherwise love the vehicle.
Don't forget your spare tire. My TPS did the same thing, and when I put a few more PSI into the spare the phantom TPS message went away. Check the inflation pressures on the door, if I remember correctly the spare should be 5 PSI higher than the other tires.
Is there a battery in them? Can that go? I had a z28 when I was a kid I drove it for over 100k with the check engine light, knowone could fix it and it was never a problem. Also, do not step on your door handle to get to your roof rack.....they are really cheap plastic and just snap off.

It is a possibility that the previous owner shut the check engine lights off. I know that's a terrible thought, but it is a possibility.
When our light came on and dealer said we needed to replace gas cap we did, and I shut the light off. We drove it for 3 days, and several hundred miles then the light came back on. So, if the codes are shut off, you can drive a few hundred miles before it will come back on I have found at least.
I was then told the problem may be that the throttle body and MAF needs cleaned or the purge valve replaced. I did both which took care of the problem and the lights. No more gas cap light now.
I hate to say that someone would have shut off the lights but it just seems odd to me that they weren't on when you bought it and just a couple days later they are on.
