More Radio Woes
Now that I have found out my radio gain was set too high by the dealer making my seat belt gong sound like a fire alarm I would like to know HOW does the dealer scan a radio? Making an hour long one way trip to a dealer just to have him tweak a radio seems like a pain in the butt to me but I can't stand my radio being screwed up. What is involved with this mystery "scan"? How do they do it and can any GM dealer scan the radio and set the gain properly?
What scan are you talking about? I don't know about your radio but I'm guessing it is trial and error or they simply use a voltage meter. Traditionally turning down the gain is simply turning down a dial in the back of the stereo to decrease the pre-amp signal. Maybe they have a spec for the voltage coming out of the stereo or maybe they'll just try it and set it at an appropriate level. Call a Chevy or GMC dealer in town and see if they can do it for you. Called a GM dealer and they won't touch it because it's a warranty issue. As for the "scan", I have NO idea what they're telling me but 2 different dealers have referred to the "scan". I don't know if it's a plug in scanner to the radio that they use or typical GM BS for blowing smoke up my tail pipe. Either way, it needs fixed and I can't do it myself. on that same note....How can I remove the radio from the dash?
