Low production number vehicles..

A friend was quizzing me about my T and when I told him they'd only been produced for two model years (..if you want to call the 10's a model year :))
he wondered out loud how unusual it was for a US car maker to only produce such a short 'run' of a specific vehicle.

I'd love to add something like "yeah, the T is the least produced US made vehicle in the last XX years" when yakking about it, but I don't know that to be true. Anyone have any idea how 'rare' the T's are in relation to other US made vehicles?

I think there were 3059 total H3T's sold in the U.S. through June 2010. There were assuredly a hand full sold after June 2010, but it can't be many, as there were less than 10 Alphas left in May 2010 in the entire Southeast U.S. and maybe 20 5 cylinders.

This would make it lower production than the SSR, Ford GT, Nissan GT-R and Dodge Prowler, a few of the lower regular production models of the past 15 years.

I am not sure where you got your numbers from, maybe US specific or just a guess? Please let me know your source if you have one, I have been compiling information on this for quite a while.

The actual total number of H3T's produced is 5,680.

As far as breakdowns go between Alpha and other packages and options, it has never been disclosed officially. Certain percentages were known, so the we can approximate fairly accurately. There is a wildcard in the breakdown, which is that the fleet order in 2010 may have been for either all Alpha's or a mix of base models and alpha's instead of all base models. Another percentage I don't know is how many Alpha's had the off-road pacakge... it was assumed that the majority do, likely in the 75% range.

Production Numbers for H3T

2009: 4,736
2010: 945
============
Total: 5,680

Approximate Breakdowns go something like this:

2010 White Base Models (fleet order): 849
2010 Alpha: ~48
2010 5cyl w/ Adventure: ~24
2010 Base: ~24
2009 Alpha: ~2400
2009 5cyl w/ Adventure: ~1118
2009 Base: ~1218

Approximate total with a standard Transmission = ~56

Interesting. Any chance at including luxury in that breakdown. Like how many '09 5cyl Lux/Adventure models? ;) The data probably isn't there, just curiosity.

I believe People get confused between model year and calendar year production and therefore there are some inflated numbers out there. The links I used are straight from GM and are U.S. production only. No offense to the Aussies and I have no idea if they built any H3T's in Russia, but neither has any impact on a discussion about the rarity of a vehicle in the U.S. market.

There were 321 H3T's built in 2010 through June 2010. These are 2010 calendar year production.

http://phx.corporate-ir.net/External...xUeXBlPTM=&t=1

There were 2046 H3T deliveries in calendar year 2009. (these include model year 2009 and 2010 vehicles)

There were 692 H3T deliveries in Calendar year 2008 (2009 model year).

http://media.gm.com/content/Pages/ne...ember%2009.xls

692+2046+321= 3059

I will say that there is the potential for some H3T's to have been built in December 2009 and delivered in 2010, that might be left out due to the differing definitions used by the 2 sources, but I don't think H3T production in December 2009, that weren't delivered until 2010 can amount to too many.

Thanks for the links, I will be looking closely at them!

The numbers I had were from an official source, but they were for total production in North America. I believe it was only made available in Canada and the US, not sure if Mexico received any.

There was a large fleet order that actually re-started the facility in January of 2010.

EDIT: I checked out your link, it says there was 945 H3T's for 2010 as well

Foxbat 05-22-2013 11:52 PM

There were 945 H3T's built in the MODEL YEAR of 2010, some of those go back to calendar September 2009 builds. There were 321 H3T's built in 2010.

That is where the inflated numbers come from. People see that link and think MYTD means those were built in 2010 and then add them to other links showing 2046 H3T's delivered in 2009 and don't get that a portion of those delivered in 2009 are also 2010 model year H3T's.

Sugarphreak 05-25-2013 08:53 PM

ahhh, I see. All my numbers are based on model year, not delivery.

There was however the fleet delivery that was built in 2010 (they extended the shut down date to accommodate that) which would increase the number physically built in 2010

GM must have the actual numbers and specs stashed away somewhere, sure would be nice to see a breakdown of all H3T's so see exactly what is what

BLACKH3T 05-28-2013 01:57 PM

Good to know

By looking at those files I must have one of the first 692, since I took delivery in October of 08.
