Looking at an H1, need some advice
Hey everybody,
I'm looking at a 93 4 door wagon with just under 40k miles. I'm a diesel enthusiast and don't mind getting my hands dirty. I've had all types of diesel trucks, but never a H1. I'm hoping some of ya'l can give me some sound advice. What are some of the things I should look for when looking at this year truck? Is the 6.2 in the H1 the same as the 6.2 in the old chevy pickups? what transmission/transfer case do these come with? and are they problematic? The PO has changed the ball joints and that's about it. I'm concerned that with the low mileage the fuel system will be dirty from not being used enough. Do these motors knock when injectors are bad like on a dmax? Are lift/injector pumps problematic with these trucks? Any info would be much appreciated!!! Also what's a typical asking price for a rig of this year and mileage? I'm working a trade with the owner for my 65 olds frame off resto mod. I'm valuing it at about 25k. Am I crazy to do this? thanks |
That truck should have the TH 400 tranny. The 6.2 is pretty trouble free. The injection pump is mechanical so no PM'D. These older trucks are pretty bullet proof. Look for upgraded idler, pitman, center link, a arms and ball joints. HVAC is weak. Price, depending on condition for a 93 wagon is probably 24k-32K.

Thanks for the info 3 hummers. I'll look closely at the steering. Looks like it's time to update your username to 6 hummers:D
