Anyone buy a gm hitch at a dealer and install themselves?

I know i will have to cut bumper.

I considered it but went with an aftermarket hitch instead because I had to tow something in a hurry.

The dealer or dealer wholesale internet store that you buy the parts from will get the numbers for you. You'll need several parts to put together your own kit and you will likely have to supply your VIN number to ensure compatibility.

There's also another alternative if you want the factory through bumper look and rear departure angle performance. After installing my aftermarket hitch I noticed that if I just have have the receiver tube cut off from the bottom of the crossbar and rewelded directly on to its face, it will be in the factory through bumper possition. I'll likely do this in a year or two when I pull it off to repaint it.

I am also looking for the factory hitch that recesses behind the bumper and I will also just measure and cut the bumper skirt to allow for install.

Has anyone puchase this from the source listed above ?

Does it bolt or weld to the exisitng frame members ?

Does it include the electrical connector as part of the package ?

Even at the listed "sale" price, it is double the price of aftermarket hitches. Is this because this hitch is a "Factory GM" style hitch with electrical connector ?

Can anyone tell me if there is a listed "Aftermarket" hitch that fits just as flush as the GM factory unit listed ?

I have installed an OEM hitch and at the same time replaced the bumper with a factory OEM notched bumper. The hitch and bumper are held on with about 8 bolts. The entire install took about 30 minutes.
An electrical connector mount comes with the hitch and a towing harness already is present behind your bumper. You would need to get a 7 pin connector to attach to the harness and mount to the hitch.

Try contacting Brody at Ridgedemon.com. He sells takeoffs from slightly used H3's. I got the hitch, bumper and connector for $400.00 shipped.

There are no aftermarket OEM style hitches.

 

Question- I am putting the factory hitch on wifes H3. Did the notched bumper come grey or did you have to paint it?

 

What ? -- Then I am wrong that "GM Parts" doesn't sell the "OEM" hitch ??
They sell aftermarket also as a "GM" product ???

Bumper is standard gray just like the non notched bumpers

 

OEM is just that, Original Equipment Manufacturer, in Hummer's case that would be a GM manufactured part, or a part produce by one of GM's suppliers.

"Aftermarket" parts generally are produced by someone other than GM and are usually designed to fit and function with the original GM specs.
In some cases these parts are produce buy the same vendor that supplies GM with the part and might be advertised as a GM product. I'm not sure though.

In any case I know of no manufacturer that makes a hitch that installs in the same flush location as the OEM GM hitch. The hitch that is on the GMParts website is an OEM part that they would be getting from a GM warehouse to sell to you.

Thanks for the response but I am still a little confused -- If I ordered a hitch from "GM Parts Direct" as listed above, Isn't that an "OEM" parts warehouse or am I to understand that GM Parts Direct is an aftermarket outlet with just a "GM" moniker.
I know the wording here is a little confusing but I just want to understand if there is "ANY" source that carries this "OEM" hitch in stock ?????
