Default iPod interface options

I have the stock 6 cd head unit with xm radio and the monsoon system and am looking for an iPod interface. Has anyone found one that works with my system? The new gm pal will need a dealer install since it needs to be programmed for my system. The only others I've seen are the isimple models but I don't think any work with the monsoon. I have the itch for another mod and this should take care of it (for now), so any help would be great!

I have the Monsoon and a Nav radio and installed the iSimple this past weekend. It works very well with my iPhone AND... it even plays the app audio for streaming feeds, which is what I was looking for because I don't have much music on mine. I actually think Monsoon might be amplifing the output and make it better. XM will be replaced with Slacker and Pandora at a significant to 100% savings. The audio quality is pretty good as far as I'm concerned! I fished the iPod cable under the center console and drilled a hole into the small front cupholder which is now my "dock". I think they have 2 models available but if you get the GM ISGM74 unit it even charges iPhone 3G, iPod Touch (gen 2) and Nano (gen 4)! Its way better than FM transmitters / modulators.

What the iSimple does is tricks the radio into thinking your iPod is a satelite feed. There is some odd button tricks to get use of the menu system but its not too bad. From what I can tell it works with all Satelite ready radios so you should be good to go. I got mine at Fry's for $149.99.

Did your XM still work with the interface? I was afraid mine would stop working so I ordered the GM model. I'm going to install in myself then stop at the dealer for a reprogram if it needs one. If your XM still works, I might have to go with the isimple version if the GM model gives me problems. Thanks for the info!

Brian, how hard is the install of the gm interface? Mine's on its way and I'll probably work on it next weekend. Your site said there was some wire splicing involved, so I was wondering how long I can expect it to take? And I also guess I'll have to call my dealer for a reprogram since I have the 6 cd changer and no nav? Thanks!

I never seem to have the right tools around after the move...but after doing it once and taking about an hour, it'd probably only take half that.

It wont come with the instructions (as it's meant for dealer install only) so I can send you the instructions if you PM me your email.

You sound like me! I can't do anything without needing to go inside for another tool. It usually takes 2 or 3 trips and 3 different toolboxes since I usually need the most obscure thing to finish. My biggest worry is the metal facing, getting that off without breaking anything. I'll send you a pm with my e'mail. Thanks!

Ben

I was a little nervous about the silver piece too, the first time.

I took the caps off the a/c outlets, then used a rag and a pair of pliers (one end in each plug) and pulled it out gently, then I worked my way around the edges to get the other clips.
