Interior Trim painting witth chalkboard spray

I have looked all over Panama for a spray paint that could match my black interior trims.

I decided to try the rust-oleum chalkboard spray paint since I really liked the color.

I am impressed with the results. It has a “tough” matte finish that blends in very well with the original colors. It also dries very quickly. For this test I didn’t use a primer but I’ll definitely use it.

I tried it on the driver side fuse box cover and vent trim. What do you think?

Interesting, did you remove the rubberized coating on the parts before spraying?

I used thinner only where the coating was really peeling off. Then 200 wet sand paper and finished with 1200.

Of course, before painting it, I washed it with dish soap.

What I’m seeing is that I need to find a good primer that can fill in the imperfections. I did not sand ithe plastic down to the core as 1. I’m lazy 2. Don’t have much time. A professional would most definitely roll his eyes 👀

I am still looking for a good matte clear coat spray for the finishing touch.

Guess you can use paint remover but it might be too harsh on the plastic?

It looks amazing! It's hard to tell, what color is your interior plastic? Is it the metallic gray'ish color? That's what mine is and I've been looking for a good color to match. I want to redo my plastics one day as they're peeling as well. If you repaint the plastic around the interior door handles, let me know how you got them off.

Thank you!

Here are some pictures of the painted parts vs the original. A bit hard to reproduce in the pics the original panel colors but, I hope it gives you an idea.

Nice trim rehab.

Want to do my center panel in dash this spring. Anybody try matching this panel it to exterior color? My 2005 H2 is repainted with 2006 Audi Pacific Blue.

I've seen lots where someone had a body shop paint the pieces to match the exterior.
