Default Instrument Cluster

Man, I'll tell ya. My truck rolled over 50, 000 miles and it seems to be falling apart!!! First it was the heating/airconditioning thing (fixed ), now the instrument cluster! Dealer wants about $550 to order and replace it, (my speedometer stopped working). So I spoke with my Dad (he's a Gear-Head). H esays they're not that hard to replace, just time-consuming. Says it's a "plug-in". My husband wants me find one on EBay, and he thinks he can replace it himself. Anyone ever replace one? Apparently I'll still need to go to the dealer to have it programmed for mileage and such... I really want to do it as inexpensivly as as possible, because I just spent a chunk on four new tires. Hear what I'm saying? Input would be appreciated!!! Thanks All!

should be simple and the on-board computer should remember all mileage, etc..... I think.

much easier than the old cars.... just because you don't have to figure out how that speedo cable comes off....

You should be fine.... but before you buy a new one.... I would personally check the ground. I put a HUD in a vette and found that the crimps on the pins are not always the best.

Does anyone know where to find those stainless steel instrument clusters with the blue lights?
