Install shocks and stops
Any links or instruction to installing the Cognitos and Bumpstops? There's plenty of info on here but no insttuctions. Do the stops just pop in and out?
|
Don't know about the shocks....But the stops just pry them out and work the other ones in
|
Since it's recommended to get an alighment after installing them, I took them to a shop to have them done and also get the alignment done. I've never done shocks so I figured it was worth the money to save me a Saturday afternoon doing them. The bumpstops were easy. There are links about doing them but the best advice I got from them is to put some kind of grease on the new ones to get them in easier. I used WD-40.

Shocks are very easy to install:
1. Lift front of vehicle 2. Remove front tires 3. Shocks have 2 bolts - unscrew and remove shock 4. Re-install cognito 5. Remove bump stops (I found an awl works best) 6. Insert new bump stops I know cuz I just did everything last week. Total time was about 15 min for bump stops and 45 min for shocks. Hope this helps a little |
is there any torque specifications? or just ratchet tight? PS what's an awl?

Nevermind, I looked it up. It looks like a fancy ice pick.

I called 4wheel shop today and they quoted me $75 for shock install, $135 for alignment. Another shop said $60 for alignment, but they only have the stock computer alignment specs. Can i just give them the lifted/ leveled alignment numbers? If so, what are the specs for 2006 H3 base with cranked bars 23.5"? My plan is to get 295/75 16Hankook MTs (They are waiting at Discount tire!!!) on stock rim, go home and crank the bars to 23-23.5" then alignment. then get the Cognitos bump stops. Good plan?
