i have an 07 h3 and its the later vin so it comes with the 16mm inner tie rods. ive shopped online, at advance auto and the dealership and still they have sent me 3 diff. 14mm inner rods everytime. ive explained in and out on how i need a 16mm not a 14mm. even one company had it labeled as a 16mm and i got a 14mm. i read on the net that they discontinued making 14mm so y do i keep getting them? i used the searched engine and could not get anything on this and sorry guys if this is a drawn out question cuz i know they break alot on these H3's. the only place i think i found one was texas hummer offroading, has anyone ordered one from them? does anyone know were i could get a real 16mm inner rod haha? i looked at gmpartsdirect but they also do not say witch one it is and im not doing another order unless i can verifiy that it is one. ive been driving around with this one for months now i would love to finally get it solved. thanks

 

another dumb question to, nobody can answer this even the dealer! the suspension should all be the same from 06 to 10 for the inner tie rods as long as its 16mm. so can i buy any year h3 inner rod 16 mm??

 

The 06 and early 07's had the 14mm tie rods. Both inners and outers were 14mm.
You can replace the 14 mm tie rods with any year 16 mm tie rods, but only as a matched set.
A 14 mm outer will not work with a 16 mm inner , or vice versa.
And, yes, any year 16mm inner will work with any year 16mm outer.

I have run into the same confusion about ordering tie rod replacements from NAPA Auto Parts.
It looks like the 14 mm diameter tie rods are listed as 16mm because of the 16mm thread at the end of the rod. It is not listed by actual rod diameter.

14 mm tie rods will be silver color.
16 mm tie rods will be black color.
I was finally able to get tie rods off of e-bay based on what color the listing showed.

 

thanks bunger for the help. i did notice that with napa and the how they mark there tie rods. im going to keep looking and hopefully someone can have a true 16mm inner haha, but thanks for the help!

 

Ordered mine through GMPartshouse.com, never knew there was an issue getting the 16s. Gene, the owner, has an H3 and knows we all want the 16s.

Mine is a Feb 07 build, and it came with 16s (black).

Everyone I have delt with over there (great prices and service there!) said he is just another sales guy who planted himself in HUMMER type forums to drum up business for himself.

 

Ah ha, I went back and looked at his email.... What I should have said was....
Gene said he set up and runs the internet sales from there. Assumptions make an azz of u and me?

 

So what are the advantages of having the 16mm over the 14mm?
