HVAC Control Module Recall / HVAC Control Knobs

1 Attachment(s)
I have a 2008 H3 with 95,000 miles. Late last Summer/early Fall all 3 of my HVAC control knobs started flickering and all eventually went out. I replaced the bulbs but they did not work. I tested all of the bulbs and they were all good so I know that wasn't the problem. GM wanted to charge me $550 for new controls but I found one a lot cheaper on eBay and changed it out last week. Everything now works perfectly.

Does anyone know if this could have been caused by the lastest HVAC Control Module recall? Could it have burnt up something that controls the lights? Just seems fishy to me

Thanks!

The recall was for the harness, not the controls after that?

However, I guess if your OEM HVAC harness fried, it might have shorted the control lights, but you did not say the OEM harness was bad?

Well don't know for sure but one day after having my harness "fixed" by the dealer for free all the lights on mine went out except for the middle one. Never had a light out in the 6 years that I have had it but the very next day bam only middle light working. I also had my license plate light go out and my 3rd brake light. I got no proof but I'm skeptical. I'm thinking maybe something happens if he don't disconnect battery or something but again no proof.

Gomer...
My license plate and brake light went out also!!! They actually went out first (probably a year ago now). I was able to rewire them and they have been OK ever since.

Doc Olds...
As far as I know the OEM harness was not bad. But maybe it was in its beginning stages of going bad and shorted the lights out???

Well my plate just needs a new bulb and so far is still working. As for my break light I know I checked about 6 months go and it was working at that time but not sure when it actually went out. As for the controls 6 years no lights out until they did the fix now only middle one works but they still function. Dealer didn't say anything about what my old harness looked like but I always had it on the first and second setting as I like the fresh air and never put it on third position unless it was only for a few minutes with air-conditioning on to just cool off the car quickly. So who knows.
