Question Hummer H1 Insurance

Just wondering who you guys are using for insurance? I got 1 quote from my company but it was close to $500/month. Is this what i can expect? I dont really think they had correct information because when I gave them the VIN on the hummer I was looking at they couldnt look it up. They said all there data starts at 2003 and up. So they gave me a quote based on stated value amount. The H1 is a 2000 Hardtop listed for $47000 with 16500 miles. Can anyone give some advice on this?

Lots of insurance companies have trouble looking up Hummer VINs. They have to look up under AM General or AMG. USAA doesn't seem to have any issues insuring H1s at a reasonable cost.

USAA is what I use and it works great...only pay 650 for both of my cars for 6 months...a 2006 Mini Coopers S and my 2000 HMCO. That is not bad I dont think.

I was with 21st Century and now Farmers. I think it's close to $2k a year with full coverage. $500/month is insane...I thought I was paying too much at $160/month!

Military or dependents. Just got something from them though saying they were expanding membership by altering member requirements. Might be worth a phone call.

I went to buy an H1 and NOBODY would cover one. My agent had to look everywhere. The only place she could find was Travelers for 1600 a year.
All the insurance companies for some odd reason are scared of those. Since insurance was so high, I bought an H2.
Later found out from an underwriter that they are scared of the H1 b/c when they crash, most cars stop, but with an H1 they keep going.
He said house crashes were the top problem. Usual cars stop at the front door or in the front door. The H1 keeps going....running over killing someone and keeps going before it comes to a complete stop.
Until insurance gets to be a reasonable deal I will stick with H2.
Underwriter said they look at those as a Tahoe or a Yukon.

Thanks man! So far farmers is the ONLY one I have found so far that will insure a H1. They quoted me at $166 to $185 a month for full coverage. The search goes on though. Ill post again if I find any others but I'm glad at least Farmers has given me hope because a H2 is not an option for me haha!

Here's tips for insuring an H1. Anything can be insured. The H1 is a rare and limited production run vehicle, some work is involved.

You need to go and get your quotes in person with someone semi reasonable with working in their system. Internet quotes are largely useless, as the VIN codes won't come up as valid unless you have a post GM h1 [02 or higher?] even then the quotes may change when you try to get a policy. I was going to get a policy with Amica, which gave me an extensive plan for 1400$/year [in Los Angeles] but when I called they raised it up to 2200 a year and said "Oh that's the expensive one".

I'm insured with AAA [California AAA] and my rates over the last 3 years ranged from 1200-1500 a year depending on what coverage I picked. They couldn't find my truck originally [1998] but I gave them a vin from a newer H1 [2002/2003] and they were able to use that to get the proper codes or numbers to register my truck in their system.

No problems at all, its listed as an 1998 Make AMG on my card.

I used to use AAA, they weren't bad. Now I use Progressive, $300/6 months.
I'm 25, don't have the best record and have a Viper ACR on the policy too.
