I've noticed that GM SUV's and Trucks (Hummer, Tahoe, etc.)have an orange peel paint job.

Orange peel referred to an automotive paint job is just as the name implies, the surface has small dimples so that it looks like the surface of an orange. This is undesirable, as you want the finish to be like a mirror, reflecting the images in its surface smoothly.

IMHO my 07 black H3 has a medium orange peel finish, compared to other cars I've owned. The paint looks to be of high quality, but the surface prep seems to have been poor resulting in the orange peel. However, 10 feet away with 2 coats of Turtle Wax ICE paste, it looks pretty damn good

mines junk.. in light, the boulder gray has light and dark spots like too much paint in one area and not enough in others... really a bad job if you ask me.

does boulder gray have metallic type flake in it? Silver/grays/ and al metallics are the hardest to paint...always get heavy concentration of flake in areas....my body shop guy that painted all my show trucks always urged me to stay away from these colors.

I think I got lucky, my yellow h3's paint is near perfect, I have no swirls or orange peel.... I did notice on others in the lot though.

Black is an unforgiving color in that it mirrors all body and paint inperfections. A car or a truck should make no difference in quality.
BTW a H3 in Ohio titles as a Stationwagon.

I do have some orange peel and hazing.

If classified as a truck it can't be used commercially without more costly truck tags.
