How to Reset the Engine Oil
Life System
The Engine Oil Life System
calculates when to change the
engine oil and filter based on vehicle
use. Whenever the oil is changed,
reset the system so it can calculate
when the next oil change is required.
If a situation occurs where the oil is
changed prior to a CHANGE OIL
message being turned on, reset the
system.
To reset the Engine Oil Life system:
1. With the engine off, turn the
ignition to ON/RUN.
2. Press and release the stem in
the lower center of the
instrument cluster until the OIL
LIFE message is displayed.
3. Once the alternating OIL LIFE
and RESET messages appear,
press and hold the stem until
several beeps sound. This
confirms that the oil life system
has been reset.
4. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL message
comes back on when the vehicle is
started, the engine oil life system
has not reset. Repeat the procedure

It is easily explained in your owners manual
It only takes a few seconds to accomplish.

To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:

1. Turn the ignition key to RUN with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five
seconds.
If the OIL LIFE RESET message flashes for 10 seconds, the system is
resetting. SPAMMER
3. Turn the key to LOCK.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start your vehicle,
the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure. If it still
does not reset, see your dealer for service. thanks a lot for sharing

Virtually all of the oil changes I've had done to my new cars have been done by the selling dealer's service department while I've had the car in for warranty service. Over the past ten or so such changes, the the change oil light has been reset exactly once, despite my having asked them specifically to this. In every case, I found the procedure clearly described in the owner's manual after the light came on. My concern with the Hummer, though, is that my monthly On-Star diagnostic reflected that my oil hadn't been changed until I reset it myself - meaning that I need to keep my records in order (as, I suppose, I should in any event).

I know, this is an old thread but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for.

Am I the only one that can't get any beeps during the oil life reset? I hold that stem down for 30-45 seconds and it doesn't do a thing, just keeps blinking like it did from the start. How do I know it reset? If it's just the beeps, I'm at a loss.
FYI-The change oil light did not come on. I'm just changing the oil on my own.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

the owners manual would have been easier to read LMAO

Mine wouldn't beep either. The first two oil changes it worked just like mentioned in the manual. The third time it didn't. Just wouldn't beep. I was thinking it may have to do with my aftermarket stereo (this is the first oil change since I installed it). I bought the GM interface and all. Everything else work, door chimes, etc, just no beeps after the reset. I'm going on the assumption that it reset, I just didn't get a confirming beep. Guess I'll see when I get my next OnStar report. Do you happen to have an aftermarket radio?

I do have an aftermarket head unit. I used the GMOS-01 interface and have all the chimes, etc. That must be the cause. I'll just keep records of when I changed the oil I guess.

Thanks

With the engine off and the ignition on, press the accelerator pedal to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. That is not in the manual but it works on my H3 A mechanic friend turned me on the that. Easier than messing with the DIC.
