How does the Hummer 4x4 work? Is it 2WD with 4x4 or AWD?
 

Just curious, (Starting todo alot of research, since im gonna be buying one this Summer, hopefully sooner) how the 4x4 system works.


Is it RWD with selectable 4 High, 4 Low, or is it AWD/Auto 4x4? If it matters, ill most likely be in a 2003-2006, as I dont care much for some of the interior redesign on the 08/09.

i know only the h3, 06-10 afaik. its awd full time 4wd with open diffs front/rear and open diff in the transfer case in 4hi.

the tc locks in lock modes front,rear driveshafts locked.

you can find some with front and rear locking diffs if you hunt!
those diffs lock only in lo lock.
my 10 adventure is one.

Best thing to do is to go on the GM HUMMER site and look at the PDF file for the H2 Owners Manual. It will explain what the features are and how everything works.

Also, READ A LOT on the HUMMER specific forums for things to look out for and what the different packages are. Use the SEARCH functions (available on ALL forums) before asking a question that may have been answered 100+ times.

Full time 4wd, part time 4wd high, part time 4wd low. Full time 4wd really is 4wd, not the auto 4wd found on other full size GM trucks/SUVs.
