Yeah. people have made thought about all that, there is even somebody out there selling a ridiculous priced vent set as a solution for a non-existent problem in order to create future unrelated problems. Like snow and rain, mud and dirt dumping all over your engine and underhood electronics to release some heat designed/engineered to be there. (ie... it don't matter if it is hot under there).

Why not put a grill (like BBQ Grill) grate over those hood holes so you can cook some dogs and brats for on the trail lunch. :D

It will help with heat soak while idling and help prolong the life of the wires/connectors/insulation due to less heat over the long term.
In the summer my hood on the v8 used to get extremely hot to open, i removed the rubber seal at the back of the hood and it helped alot!
As doc said, if you are looking at reducing engine temps, it wont help unless you have a restrictive cooling system (double core rad+trans cooler). It will also open up other issues such as water/dust/mud having another way to enter the engine bay!
