Help with OEM Rear View Camera System
Hi All,
New owner here and have a '06 H2 13,000 miles w/lux with factory nav and now wanting to add in a back up camera. Obviously mine is not a special edition or else it would have came with the camera that pops out from the rear view mirror. What I want to know is if this can be added to my vehicle since I have the factory nav ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AIT&viewitem= I emailed the company Boulder Accessories who manufactures these for GM and they sent me a copy of the installation instructions and it says on there that my vehicle must have a WS2 or UVC option code in order for it to work. What does this mean ? Regards, Shundy |
I am not sure about the option coding either but I bought the kit and was planning on installing tomorrow and I do not have those options. Could you send me the directions that they sent you because the printed ones I got sucks and cannot even make out the few pictures they sent

Rear View Bank Up Camea / Mirror

I just purchased 1 of these from Boulder Accessories a few weeks ago - I had the dealer install it = (cost 200.00) The mirror they sell now is the system for the 2008 - 2009 - The viewing monitor does not slide out of the right side on this unit - it is built into the mirror under the glass - you can not see it until you put it into reverse and the monitor and camera are powered up - then you see the monitor light up like a little TV under the mirror glass- works pretty good, however the view is blocked a bit be the spare tire and the hitch - but it does help pretty good I wish there was a built in light to help out because in total darkness the image is harder to see and grainy looking - but still works pretty good The dealer said when they tried to install it they had a problem and could not get the camera to work and some really good tech found out the camera was not getting power - so he hooked up some-kind of relay and it works great One little issue is the mirror shape is a little different from the standard one in the H2 and also the 2008 - 2009 H2's has a slightly different over head console - so the mirror rides a little high and the over-head console just slightly blocks the top of the mirror because the 2007 and under consoles are a bit bigger - just slightly and for me is no problem (and I am really picky) Those codes you see (WS2 or UVC) are production codes - so if you order a 2008 - 2009 H2 with this type of mirror system - it would have those codes. When I first wanted to do this and took it to my local Chevy dealer they told me this would not work because the camera needed to go through the PCM - however it does not So far I am pretty happy with it XENO |
i had my backup camera installed in my 06 and they used a module to tie it into the factory nav screen its a sweet setup and is full color except at night when the camera switches to black and white because it tales less light to operate. it cost me $350 installed that included the camera and all parts

I put it in my 2004 in about an hour in the driveway. Works like a charm all plug and play. Also bought the headrest tv dvd system. Another hour gone in the driveway but shut the kids up. Boulder is a great ebay company also!

The benefits of using UVC USB in Video has also become a standard piece of the following hardware in all programs will run more smoothly between each other , but also omitted the driver to install this part . I have an appointment next week. Did they install it for you anyway? I'm tempted to do it myself, had no trouble with the rear entertainment system. It was plug and play but I got a few good tips from fellow members which I needed because the directions stink. If anyone has a few pointers for the camera systems I would appreciate it. |
H2FAR...I tend to think that they pitch the PCM story because of the need to get a +12V when the truck is put into reverse. Any video switching unit (like the one I installed in my RAM and the current box in my H2) will need a switch leg to switch the video input on/off to whatever display you use. I know that when I installed the kit in my RAM, the hardest part was getting that signal. I could be wrong, though. :)
