help! looking for a new horn

So I'm sick and tired of having a hummer with a vw bug horn, and I want to do something about it..

I don't know the first thing when it comes to horns, so I was hoping that somebody could shed some light on this for me (and probably others). Are our H3's 12v vehicles?

here is what I was looking at getting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dual-...QQcmdZViewItem
its 135db, which I know is a bit on the rediculous side of things, but I figured that their ratings might be from a couple inches away or something like that, and its better to go overkill because of that (?) The kit comes with a new compressor, which I think it would need.

would this kit work with our H3s? is this kit any good? any other recommendations?

Thanks all!

I dont know anything about that particular manufaturer or horn, but all civilian production models in the US have a 12 volt starting system at the least. I believe 135 db is about how loud a semi horn is.

Maybe I have the "special" H3 but my horn is really loud and sounds like a REAL horn. Maybe yours is defective ;-)

I'm glad you guys could shed some light on this for me! Thank you!!!

I really didn't even think about those horns sounding like the air horns at football games, that would have really pissed me off if I payed for that!!!! I think that I will give the horn that Dennis and Chris suggested. I figure that I'm due to go back to autozone by now anyway ;)

especially since I accidentally pressure-washed off some of my paint on my muffler this weekend (you don't have to say it, I know it was dumb to get so close with a 2700psi pwasher!)

thanks again for leading me in the right direction with my 'tooters' lol!

I went with the Wolo Model 200 "Twin Power" horn set. Sounds really good with the stock horn connected in parallel. Fit nicely behind the grill.

Don't waste your money. Go to the Junk Yard and pull a set out of a Caddy or a an older American Car. You'll have big sound for less than 20 bucks.

I upgraded mine with two thatI had sitting in the garage. One is a air horn with two trumpets the other is an "ooga" horn (think Ford model T). I hear the ooga horn much better than the other two. Catches your attention better than a regular horn that's twice as loud. I think I got it at harbor freight for about $10.

This is an old issue and we have about beat it to death over the months but it keeps coming back. Some of the factory horns on the H3's sound like a dying cow and are pretty embarassing when you need to make a point to some idiot driver ona cell phone at a green light.

Here are two manufacturers that won't break your budget and should have something loud that fits in the OEM location.

The stock horn only needs (+) power, the horn itself is (-) grounded by being bolted to the
frame. There should be just one wire going to the horn. If you have a voltmeter and put the red probe on the wire and the black probe to the body/frame you should read 12v when someone beeps the horn.
