HELP! '08 Tires
Time for some new shoes for the Ultra Marine.
However, Goodyear RS-As were discontinued some time back. Seems no 305/60-20s are available any longer. WTF? But I don't need LT off-road "trucK tires like the M/T or mudders that are prevalent in the 35x12.5-20s. 90/10 on/off road - what's a streeter to do? |
Search for metric size 325/60R20 LT

Every 325/60R20 tire I've seen requires at least a 9" wide rim. The stock hummer wheels are 8.5". Around here, a lot of installers will not put them on as the wheel is not within spec. I'm not saying you can't get it done, but for the time being, I just swapped out to 17s & put on 35s. The vehicle rides the same, height wise, but rides smoother due to more sidewall. The bonus of moving down to 17s is tires are relatively cheaper. I could get 17s + 35s for the price of just tires for 20s. It's something to consider. I don't understand why GM didn't make a 20x9 vs 20x8.5. If I ever go back to 20s, I'm buying a 20x9 wheel, just do to this tomfoolery. The only 315/60R20 I've seen is the Toyo MT which is not a street tire, will ride horribly & wear quickly. There is a 295/65R20. Again, a Toyo (Open Country AT 2). I owned a 35" pair & weren't happy at all with anything. I sold the wheels/tires to a neighbor who just needed something for a work truck. These don't do well for street drivers or even offroaders. Just my experience with the tires. Nitto also makes one, but's another MT. 305/55R20 will put you at about 33.2", so that's 1.2" lower than before. It's an option, but most people wouldn't want to lower their ride heights & effectively change the speedo readout (it's not major, but 65mph is just under 63, for instance). Also, take into account that if you put on an AT like the BFGs that came stock or the new KO2s, the weight will affect acceleration. Maybe others can speak up about putting 325/60R20s on an 8.5" wide wheel. I wasn't willing to take the chance of it blowing out or having insurance issues if I was involved in a wreck. |
Ever pick out tires?
