Default Heavy Rain Parked now wont run

Hello,
I have a 2006 H2 was out in a severe rain/blowing rain storm and now will not run. The truck has always run perfectly. Wife came home (sunny evening) parked the H2 in the driveway, in the night we had severe wind and heavy rains. Went to start in the morning and it fired and instantly quit, tried again with same results, tried a 3rd time and key would do nothing in regards to starting and the gauges and lights started acting erratic, which I assume is an electrical issue. The next day it ran enough to get in the garage and I started poking around and found the drivers carpet was saturated. Reading forums I assume the marker lights caused the water to get in (checked sunroof tubes and they are clear). I set up a heater and commercial air mover for 2 days to dry it out. Now the truck starts sometimes but barely runs and electrical issues seem present when looking at the gauges and the exhaust smells rich and stinky, Might run for a few seconds then wont restart until I disconnect the battery for a couple minutes.

Has anyone had something like this happen and might be able to send me in the right direction?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Did you check the relay panel next to the battery? The fuel pump relay is there as is other important fuses.

Hey Tim,
Thanks for the reply. I did pull and check all the fuses and switched around known working relays in that panel. Almost seems like something is taking down the BUS system. It will start but like it is only on 1-4 cylinders then dies. At that point the gauges are all erratic and the key will not start it again until I disconnect the battery. And After I start it and it fails and the gauges are messed up it can not communicate with the OBD. After the battery disconnect and before attempted start it will then communicate with OBD.

Weird stuff

Sounds like water ran down into the cover under the steering column and soaked the BCM. That will cause all sorts of problems....

Thanks MixMan, I wonder if the BCM will dry and operate as normal? I think I will tear the dash apart and pull the BCM and inspect/dry/contact clean the connections and report back.

You need to get compressed air to blow out the moisture and water that has intruded the inside. After that use a fan to circulate air under the dash to speed up the process of evaporation. Everything will be okay but you need some patience. Even if the house fan was on for a week might help. No matter what - its a SLOW process but you will get there.

Thanks Dionkraft,
I sure hope so!! I will do just that. I do have a commercial blower now drying the carpet and will keep it going to dry and help dry out everything.

I will report back

Just an update on the situation. We have the dash panels removed and have had the H2 in a heated shop and a commercial blower blowing at the foot area of the drivers side with the battery disconnected the whole time. That blower has been blowing for about 2 weeks. We hooked the battery up to try this morning and turn the key to on position and gauges are just fine, try to start and the truck fires for 1 second then gauges and electrical goofy stuff happens like the lights seemed to flash iractic and gauges act about the same. Disconnect the battery for a couple seconds and the same sequence is repeated. After the attempt to start I get code P0053, P0054, P0059 and P0060.

Any suggestions?

The codes are for your O2 sensors. Have you pulled the connectors off of the BCM to see if there is any sort of corrosion or anything? Might also need to check the same on the ECU under the hood. Something is electrically screwy somewhere. Ignition switch can also cause a lot of issues if it is going bad.

Just wanted to let all know that the issue is resolved. I brought it to a shop and they hooked it up and determined that there was low voltage coming from the ignition switch that was causing the problem. They replaced the ignition switch and it is now perfect. With testing, parts and labor I was only charged $276.00. I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks to all who gave suggestions.
