Headers
Do shorty headers bolt straight up to the stock exhaust above the cat's?
|
To my knowledge, Yes they do. Shorty headers perform a bit better than stock but not anywhere near as long tube (LT) headers do.
This is my next mod and have been doing lots of research on this with the H2's. My guess is those members that have upgraded their headers, have went with the long tube style. |
Ok, good info thank you.

Yes that is the point of shorties, to replace the factory manifolds but still bolt to the stock exhaust system.
Long tubes will obviously give the greatest power and torque gains but in some cases the rest of the system has to be reworked or welded onto the LT's. In my opinion if you are going to mess with the exhaust you'd be better off going with LT's! |
Thank you

Went with ceramic shorties here. was trying to alleviate heat issues emanating from the exhaust manifold without having to replace the entire exhaust and try to figure out if it was California legal.

Most of it is loyalty based. Some people prefer only the name brands like Kooks but you'll pay out the arse for a set. OBX is a Chinese (I believe) company who basically knocks off all the name brands and sells them for a fraction of the price. When I had my GTO, those guys were Kooks crazy but the vette guys absolutely LOVED the OBX and never had issues with them. I know some people around the forums are running them. When my bolts break (hope not) or I just get around to it I'll be going with OBX. |
Take a look at this guy in the link below on how to install LT's ....
