head unit swap (where to start)
 

i am planning to swap my factory head unit which looks like this

i am considering an android double din replacement( chinese brands)

my car doesn't have OnStar

what parts should i be looking for, harnesses adapters interfaces

i plan to preserve factory alarms(seatbelt chime ,overspeed, lights reminder parkingbrake reminder) although if keeping them proves costly i can live without them

i am looking at clean install no wiring splices or cutting just plug n play


car is 2009 h3 i5 base as i believe auto transmission

I've contemplated this exact change over. From research I've done this is not always so straight forward. There is some splicing and electrical hoops loops to it.


May be video will help. This is not mine, just one I found in searching.

i am trying not to splice or cut or modify vehicle harness in any way possible

now i have never been in radio installiation before
i managed to get the center dash panel that has cigarette lighter and 4x4 controls by pulling from cigarette lighter
but stopped at that point since i don't have radio to replace

the video you linked i watched before but it's still confusing to me

so is the factory radio has female plugs on the back?

should i be using this harness(then splice and cut as necessary)

i believe the second image is to install h3 radio into ISO Compatible car am i right?

so my plan is to get the first harness in the first picture then do any modification on the harness itself not on the car


the video explains something about hard wiring to the fuse box

isnt the harness supposed to give power directly to the radio? what about 12v permanent power for memory(channels presets, settings)

what about chimes seatbelt, overspeed,

on newer chevy cars even turn signal noise(relay clicks) is comming from the speakers what about h3 the guy in the video still have turn signal clicks witg hazards on is it real mechanical relay or some electronic part with false simulation through speakers

Go to Crutchfield's website and it will tell you exactly what adapters you need for whatever radio you choose (assuming they sell it) and then buy the stuff wherever you want. There are 3-4 other good sites with the same info selling different brands. They will even tell you how to take your stuff apart and put it back together.

It will all be plug and play with the correct harness adapters, a grade school kid could do it.

i am trying to finish this swap with minimum amount of money spent

i researched and found the link you are talking about

it mainly talks about swapping speakers

i have no problem removing the head unit off but once i make sure it will fit and work( even if not 100% as intended)

now if i got (female h3 harness to iso plugs)

and color match the wires into my new head unit(chinese android enabled head unit)

what else do i need(i dont have onstar, i don't necessarly need chimes and warnings) do i need to hotwire a cable to fuse box in order to make the unit run?

all power to run the original is in the existing harness. if your new adapters are the correct ones it should work. no messing with new power wires.

what if i am not using a module(to retain chimes and leave radio on while door is not opened yet) will i still get power and permanent power for memory(presets) using only hummer h3 to (ISO POWER/ AUDIO)

it should work plug and play?

i am just trying to make sure 100% that no extra splicing is necessary or extra wiring through firewall into fuse box is needed

since this guy mentioned something about wiring to fusebox

i'll purchase (Hummer H3 female to male ISO Power/Audio)

i'll cut and splice the harness as necessary(the purchased harness not the car harness within dashboard to fit the new headunit and carefully match color codes going to speakers , head unit power and such)

now do i need any other wire comming from fuse box ?
i saw 2 guys on youtube going through fuse box and another guy got power from rear wiper

is the radio support frame within the dashboard will interfer with the new head unit? something on crutchfield mentioning i'll may need to cut the supporting mount or something
