H3 Smells Bad
Sounds like a Seinfeld skit but I agree with AT6Stick The dealer probably cleaned off any signs of a rat under the hood and splashed some smell well to mask. I'd go back to the dealer. Is it a Hummer dealer?
I see this all the time a mouse will build a nest and have little mice they die .take out the blower motor and check i have found over a pound of dog food in a fj vents and three mice.BG products sells frigifresh which will kill all the bactiera and get rid of the smell.
I have had the same problem. I bought my 07 H3 last week from a GM dealership in Toronto with 33 000 miles on it. Ever since I had it, I noticed a bad smell when I turn the heater fan on. It smells like a dead animal or something like that. It's immaculate and fully loaded. The carpets don't smell at all by the way.
When I put the heater selector to the windshield, it will blow some small particules all over the dash. It looks like dried up grass? When I turn the fan off and rotate the selector somewhere else; ie; from windshield to bi-level and then turn the fan on again, I can hear a swirling sound under the dash. It sounds like sand, dirt or even dried up grass going around in the HVAC for a couple seconds. Is there some sort of a filter in the HVAC which could fall apart and create this nasty dirty soxes smell? How could a rodent enter the HVAC? Under the hood at the vent below the windshield wipers? Or under the breeders above the fenders? I have contacted the dealer and now waiting for them to get back to me.

Couldn't help but laugh my *** off on this one !! lol
You should jump online and report the dealer to bbb.org and the attorney general. It will take you 30 minutes and they will call you to fix the problem. I have done that a few times for other things and you would be suprised how nice people are when they get letters from the bbb and attorney general.
My wife is on her third Hummer and each one has had a horrible odor that is stifling for those with allergic reactions that affect breathing.
I cannot ride in the car.
Automotive people I have asked say that it is caused by the adhesives used or other internat components.
This is not the only car that causes problems for me.
Anyone have updates?

Great thread.
My grandfather told me many years ago about one night him and my grandmother took out a business client and his wife (this was during the 1960s I think). The business client got very drunk (since my grandfather's company was paying for the night) and vomited down the air vents. My grandfather put hoses and all sorts of cleaning stuff down the vents but never got rid of the smell of vomit. He just kept the air vents closed and never used the fan (opened the windows if he needed a breeze).
Many years later one of my dad's work colleagues was taking his wife who was in labour to the hospital but they didn't quite make it and she delivered the kid in the front passenger seat. My dad reckons even after cleaning it looked like someone had been killed by the mafia in it, and when they shared a car to conferences they always raced to sit in the back. Used to pong a bit too.
