H3 shut down - Will not turn crank
I have read prior posts but I find some conflicting answers on my issue. My issue seems to involve starting after my H3 stalled out. Most of the answers claim the truck will start and run, until it happens again. So please forgive me for possibly asking a question that has been discussed in the past.
Accelerating from a traffic light today, my H3 stalled out. Glided to safety. It will not crank, it acts like a dead battery, but we have already ruled this out. ( I know for sure its not the battery )
I am reading P1516 & P2101 codes. No warning signs at all, it just happened without any lights or issues prior to today. It throws out the "Service Stab System", "Power Reduced" info on the dash when key is in "on" position. No cranking, just a few clicks, but no life.
Throttle body? Gas Pedal system? ECM?
It happened while accelerating, and just died. Has not cranked since.
I am IBEW Local 827, unfortunately went on strike this morning, so I am not in a position to waste money trouble shooting until I am back to work. ( Have to feed the family first! Verizon employee) Timing could not be any worse!!
Thank you for any help. I know its a wide range of parts it can be. Just hoping the fact that it will "not start".. may offer some more info for the repair. Seems most of these codes allow truck to start up again. This is not my case. Thanks again. Any help is truly appreciated at a time like this.

The codes that are in the system are directly related to the throttle body. The vehicle should still start and run. There are so many scenarios that can cause a no crank problem. Security issue, bad starter, poor connection at the battery, faulty relay and ignition switch problem just to name a few. We need more information on what is going on with your Hummer. Did you crank it for 10 minutes to try and restart it, causing the starter to fail? Did you check the throttle body to see if something got jammed in the throttle body and possible get into the motor? What lights are on the dash after you try to start it? Maybe your PCM decided it has had enough. The more information the better. I will also tell you that without actually checking out your Hummer in person, it may be nearly impossible to diagnose. If this all happened at the same time, I would start with checking fuses.
I have two things to add.
I agree with WR3NCHE4D, those are TB control codes, but the truck should crank regardless, but.....
part of the P1201 when in combo with P1516 adds another fold, you have a short in the TAC system, which in some cases comes from the actual source, ie the PCM. If the PCM puked, you can have a no crank dead scenario. Or, you have a robust short somewhere that also involves the starter circuit?
I would start with the cheap and easy stuff first, so let's ask: do you have the stock OEM battery terminal connectors? If you do, they SUCK, get rid of them and replace with an aftermarket quality set. That rules out voltage irregularities to the PCM. You would be surprised how much those simple fails can cause multiple electrical issues.
Crawl around and visually inspect the wiring to see if it is rubbing on something and grounding out other circuits.... per Tainter's question.

Thank you for the info!!
The Stab System Fail light & Power reduced light are on the dash.
The fact the truck stalled out, without warning and would not crank is what has really had me stumped here. Usually it will crank afterwards.
I had guys trying to help and 1 guy ended up throwing the security light so I had to reset that once it was towed home. I did the 10 minute on, 10 second off thing and light went off after 1st try, but I did do it all 3 times, as stated for this reset. The security light is no longer lit up on the dash.
The battery terminals just may be stock! I have to check, as I purchased it as a 2nd owner 3 years ago. I did try to jump it from a F250, to see if maybe it was a voltage issue, but still no crank, just dead, with a few clicks.
* Stalled out while acelerating from a traffic light
* No crank right away when I tried to restart it.
* Stab System Fail Light
* Power reduced Light
* P1516 & P2101 codes.
I agree this may be something more than TB issue. I did find out that when a friend cleared the codes, the truck did crank again, but codes came back and it stopped cranking. He said he cleared codes 3X and it cranked. But both codes came back and soon as they did, it wouldn't turn over again. Is this any help? Maybe a hint to start with a direction?
Thank you again guys. I really do appreciate the help and info here.

I'm scratching my head here. This is all I have at this point. Have you tried clearing the codes and unplugging the throttle body then try to crank it? There could be a short in the throttle body causing the PCM to shut down. Of course the codes will come back immediately. Or even better, borrow a throttle body from a friend and plug it in to see if the codes come up. No need to remove yours yet. This would definitely be a new one if the throttle body caused the no crank condition. I have a feeling the pcm is going into some sort of weird safety and not allowing it to crank. I wish I had more info to give.
OK..... had it towed to a trusted shop that I deal with regarding my business and all. Your not going to believe this one, but I want to post it for those who may encounter something in the future.
About 14 months ago I had K&N Airfilter installed. They said there was a loose bolt that dropped into the TB and it was keeping the flap open. It took them all of 10 minutes to find it.
( my bill...... $45 for synthetic oil change I asked for while they had it. )
All of the info I found on the TB issues say that the truck should of been cranking, but not starting. My issue would not allow any crank at all. It was as if it was a dead battery, but everything was working ( radio, lights, etc. )
No crank, just a click here n there. So for future issues, I hope this helps.
* Stab System Fail light
* Power Reduced light
* P1516 & P2101 codes
* No crank, just dead when turned key
Result....... Throttle Body intake flap was stuck open from bolt that loosened with K&N Filter Kit done over 1 year prior, stopping the truck from attempting to start / crank.
This was a HUGE relief, being on the pick it line and all. I cant thank you guys enough for the input here. It is so nice to have people to talk to and help out here. I am always reading, looking for ways to help out. Hopefully this may save somebody else in the future. Turns out the TB issue will in fact stop the ignition from cranking. Shuts it down completely. Who knew....??
Thank you again guys I cant say that enough.
