H3 & History Lesson

I just returned from the final reunion of the WWII Soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division at Denver Colorado. My Grandfather was in the 10th Mtn Division and I am the current editor of the 10th Mtn Division Descendants Blizzard newspaper. We are the kids and grandkids of 10th Mtn veterans who continue the history and legacy of the division. I was fortunate enough to retrace their battle route with them last summer all through Italy. While at the Denver reunion, we accompanied them to Camp Hale on a final return to their training grounds.

Camp Hale was established in 1942 in west-central Colorado to provide winter and mountain warfare training during World War II.. The cantonment area for Camp Hale was constructed in Eagle Park, east of Highway 24 near Leadville. The camp was established here because of the natural setting of a large, flat valley bottom, surrounded by steep hillsides suitable for training in skiing, rock climbing, and cold weather survival skills. The size of Camp Hale varied between 5,000 and 247,243 acres during the time that it was an active military installation.

These are the 2 rock faces where they did much of their rock climbing training.

The 10th Mountain fought through Northern Italy at sites such as Riva Ridge (a daring night climb), Mt Belvedere, Hills 913 & 909, through the Po River Valley, then to Lake Garda where they learned of the German surrender.

That's VERY interesting. Is that picture your grandfather or just a mountain ranger in general?

Good looking color on that H3. Looks like you need some mudflaps (no need for a new thread to find those). Thanks for the slice of history.
