H3/H3T Expedition Toolbox Contents
OK, imagine your going on your dream expedition with your H3/H3T and your fitting out your field repair toolbox to take on the trip. You want all the tools that you might need to fix anything that could fail along the way, but you still need to be able to carry the toolbox in the H3/H3T along with all your expedition gear, so light weight and compact is desirable. So where are you going, what tools would you pack and why?
P.S. I'll start a separate thread for spare parts so lets keep this list to tools. |
-First Aid Kit
-Full Socket & Wrench Set -Vice Grips -Several sizes of Pliers -Wire, Shoe Laces & Zip Ties -Duct Tape -Off-Road Compressor (big enough for big tires!!) -Tire Repair Kit ..And of course Beer for when you get really really stuck or broken |
I would Bring On Star*...:D.
1. Spotlight with a car charger 2. Sockets and wrenches 3. Pry bars of different lengths 4. Military Tri-fold Shovel 5. Hammer 6. Screwdrivers 7. Propane torch 8. Starter Fluid 9. Air compressor 10. Gloves |
If you want to keep it as light possible figure out what the most likely field repairs would be and what tools you need for those. ( 1.2 shaft, inner/outer tie rod, flat tire, fan belt etc ) Anything you don't feel comfortable doing yourself you don't need tools for.
That said, sockets, box end/ratcheting wrenches. phillips/flathead screwdriver, breaker bar, extensions, jack stand, flashlight, pry bar, ball peen hammer, duct tape, pocket knife... |
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to my own thread. I've been busy.
Thanks for the replies Sugarphreak, Recovery21 and 3hummers. All the inputs are excellent and I would take everything mentioned plus the following: 1: Iridium Phone - OnStar is great and one of the reasons I bought my Hummer, but it only works where there is Verizon wireless coverage. I'd rent an Iridium satellite phone at http://www.roadpost.com/Iridium-Sate...-P704C279.aspx at $6/day it is cheap insurance and you only need to rent it for the duration of the trip. 2: Service manual for my vehicle. I can fix just about anything if I have the spare parts, the right tools and step by step instructions. 3: Volt/Ohm meter, an assortment of wire, crimp-on connectors and wire nuts. 4: Butane soldering iron, solder and flux - also good for starting a signal fire along with the propane touch. 5: Flash lights have been mentioned, but I'd bring Rechargeable LED flash light and work light. At least one light with a hand crack. 6: Extra long set of jumper (booster) cables 7: Tire pressure gauge 8: Radiator hose repair tape 9: Epoxy glue 10: An assortment of nuts, bolts, screws and hose clamps. |
