H3 Front diff seal

While I was changing the oil in my H3 alpha I noticed the driver's side diff seal was starting to tear leak. Looking for feedback if someone has tried to do it themselves. Are special tools needed? I am an advanced amateur garage mechanic but looking for guidance. It is way out of warranty. Thanks for looking in my thread.:D

If you have an Alpha it must be an 08 or newer. So you have a 5 year / 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty. If under 100K then the dealer will fix it for you. Your For Ssle post in Dec of 20111 said you only had 62K????

If you are over 100K, you will need to remove the rim/tire, remove the half-shaft (threads on here on how to go about all of this), R&R the seal, install the half-shaft using the "blue seal protector" (sold at dealers), then do everything backwards.

Nothing tricky or "special" tools needed. You may have to go buy the correct large socket for the 1/2 shaft retainer nut (I use a 1 3/8" others use a 35 or 36mm).

Really, 100k? I was under the impression it was a 50K mile warranty. I have been lucky and only took my H3 in for service to have the torsion bars turned to level it out. I guess I will be calling the dealer?

2008 HUMMER H3 Warranty info is in your manual.

Bumper to Bumper 4years / 50,000 miles
Drivetrain 5years / 100,000 miles
Corrosion 6years / not sure if there is a mileage limit
Emissions 8years / unlimited miles

Also check out section 7, pages 6-10! Great info to know!!!!

Get that Rig into the dealer and have her leak fixed!

Took my baby hummer to dealer yesterday. Seal was fixed for free. I also had them do tranny flush. Probably the only maintenance procedure I absolutely hate to do.

Thanks for the insight:D
