H2 EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER (Check out the attached pictures...)

This came off of a 2008 Hummer H2 and is in excellent condition. It features two tow hooks and a license plate mount.

The affordable way to increase rear cargo space in your H2. The tire carrier places the spare tire on a welded steel carrier that mounts to the rear bumper, and uses cast stainless steel hinge and t-pin latch bracket for the ultimate in strength. Finished in black power coated steel for durability and great looks.

2004 Inside Spare Tire mount assembly with Cover

To free some space I got the rear tire mount assembly and took out the inside spare tire mount assembly. I've got all the bolts and rack, as well as the spare tire cover. Is anyone interested in purchasing this? I'm in Oklahoma.

Lonny - that ad is from 7 years ago and that member has not even signed onto here in over 5 years. It is highly unlikely that they still have that.

The external spare tire carrier is not just "not stocked" in AU. They are not stocked anywhere as they have not been made in about 10 years.

I'm not sure that one for a 2008/2009 will mount properly on a 2003-2007 model but I know one for a 2003-2007 model certainly will. You also have to add wiring for the relocated license plate light. There is an aftermarket one that I see on eBay and other than that you would need to find a used one that is from a CURRENT ad for sale. On top of that whoever the seller is, you would need to convince them to package it in a way that would survive the long overseas shipping. It is a large and heavy bit of hardware as well. I'd imagine just the shipping costs would easily be in the several hundreds of dollars if not more.

Also keep in mind. While it does free up more storage space in the rear hatch, it does make using the hatch MUCH more annoying as you then have to unlatch and swing the spare tire out of the way anytime you want to open the hatch. On a hill, inclement weather, etc that can really be irritating. Many opt for getting some sort of roof rack and mounting the spare up on the roof or just removing it and going without. That of course is not a great plan if you offroad a lot or travel much to sparsely populated areas.

Spare Carrier, or Not?

Opinions Please,

I purchased my 06 SUT primarily to be used for home projects when I need a truck. Considering it is a quasi 3/4 ton pickup I thought it would work out nicely. I figured out almost immediately the Tonneau cover and spare tire carrier was, shall we say more of a pain then they were worth and off the came. Since I could not stand looking at the bolts (that held on the carrier) I opted for some aftermarket tow eye's. People wanted crazy money for the stock standard tow eyes. I added a rear illuminated tag bracket and bingo.

This has worked out well and even though I only have what is a 3 foot bed with the midgate open and the tailgate down the SUT becomes a very useful truck. I was a little concerned removing the carrier and cover would detract from the look but actually (imho) it looks cleaner.
Thoughts?

What were they asking for them?

bronxteck 06-09-2019 08:43 PM

I paid 75$ each I still have them there sitting in the back of the truck. I bought them as spares since there getting harder to find.

H2-SUT 06-10-2019 12:19 PM

There was a buick dealership in Michigan that still had an original set that they were selling for $58.00 per (apparently the original price) but when I went back to purchase them they were gone. There were a few companies at one point that took the original ones and chrome plated them, those too are gone. Considering I have under $200.00 in the billet ones and tag bracket currently on my H2, I will consider myself lucky.

I can't believe what used H2 parts are selling for. When you consider what you can currently purchase an H2 for you could part it out and easily make 2 times what you paid for it. Some people say the H2 will be a collectors vehicle some day, I wonder. A manufacture will have to step up and make some re-pops for all the plastic stuff. These are great vehicles, the Hummer specific and plastic parts might inevitably be their demise, I sure hope not. As always, time will tell. lol

They are still popular enough that someone would this much effort into trying to recreate one... https://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Hummer...gAAOSwiW9c5yDy

No comment from me on that other than, just, no.

bronxteck 06-10-2019 02:28 PM

idk what to say about that LOL. but im pretty sure you can get a real decent H2 for what they are asking. but yeah the on line recyclers are really price gouging on the hummer H2 parts. even the rusted junk is at a premium.

Wow, that's just nuts, beauty must be in the eye of the beholder but to me its just fugly. Besides, for what H2's are selling for (not to mention the H3's) why would anyone go thru the expense of creating a far less capable knockoff?

Oh well, didn't mean to get off topic but thanks for that post MixmanSC, it did provide a good laugh, Cheers

That may be the ugliest truck I've ever seen! The fact that they left the Denali badge on the steering wheel too makes it worse. Looks more like a DIY hack job than anything professional. I'd rather have one of those Chinese knock off Hummer H2's

Hello

Hey just wondering where you located and what's your last price for h2 spare tire carrier please text me 416 451 5949 I'm really interested I'm located in Toronto Ontario....

H2-SUT 11-03-2019 05:08 PM

Hey Babak, Im in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Based on advised I received I took the spare carrier and stuffed it into storage. I originally was going to sell it but a friend of mine who is a professsional car collectors (he sells at Barrett and others all the time) advised me to keep it.. Seems the price of a 100% complete truck is climbing monthly and he suggested the amount of money I would get for it would not justify the effort to package it up and ship it considering the loss of value to me when I do decide to sell my H2. My suggestion to you would be a local salvage yard close to your location. They do come up from time to time in the states I am sure the same would apply to you. Best of luck friend.
