I'm in the process of changing out my brakes. I'm putting on some slotted and drilled zinc coated rotors, ceramic pads and stainless lines all the way around.

I have an 03 H2 and first of all getting the caliper off the rear today was a b*tch as there was a ton of locktight on the 2 bolts holding them on.

Also I pretty much had to dis assemble the caliper to get the pads on and off unless I'm missing something?? They don't just pop out like all the video's and pics I've seen at least on the 2003

 

Pads should slide to the center and come out.

Yeah but you have to take the caliper apart... on an 03 at least. The whole thing had to come off anyway to remove the rotor. I had to use a huge breaker bar on almost everything and it still took a while!


She stops on a dime now with the stainless lines....BIG difference from before.

 

I've been eyeing this kit myself. they are 1/3 the price here on amazon than most other places.

 

I've never understood the big brake wants for these things. The brakes are absolutely gigantic as they sit stock. I've had to hammer my brakes a couple times and I couldn't believe how they stopped me in an instant. That's even with black brake fluid and stock brake lines.

 

My stock setup was feeling pretty spongy and lame when I had to brake hard. My new rotors and pads are stock size and huge difference now! I don't think an extreme kit would be worth the $ but to each his own.

But then again it's a Hummer go big or go home baby!

 

I don't know about the whole stop in an instant thing with stock brakes. I have two H2's and both are spongey as Bob Squarepants. Definitely not good in an emergency. I just checked on some brake kits earlier this week when I came down a 1000' drop mountain path and the rotors turned black and pads were smoking. Front and rear kits from $3000 to over $6000. That's a lot of stripper money!

 

Spongy brakes is most than likely bad fluid full of dirt or moisture and/or old brake lines which are flexing when you push the brakes. Honestly, new fluid and stainless brake lines should fix that feeling.


Smoking brakes coming down a drop, you need to use more engine braking and not ride the brakes that long.

 

That kit is $950. Front and rear Rotors, Pads, Stainless steel Braided Brake lines and front four piston billet aluminum big brake calipers. Its cheaper than the O.E.M. pads and rotors. no brainer if you need brakes and rotors.
just noticed you need to have 18" wheels. with it.

 

The price is excellent, almost too good. Makes me wonder what the quality is of the calipers and rotors for that price. I'm just playing devils advocate here!
