H2 Interior

I have a question to ask everyone that owns a hummer h2.

Does everyone's interior crack and rattle? I have owned 2 H2's and both have had rattles and creeks.

Why does that happen? Is there anything that can be done about it to resolve it? Doesnt it bother you?

Thanks in advance!

Yes mine does especially if someone leans on the door panels while driving.

On another Note: how can i retain the leather smell of the seats, mine does not smell like leather anymore, is there something or a treating that can be put on the seats to bring it back> regular leather treatment i have (Black Magic Leather Care) does not do it.

I have a 2006 H2 with 60,000 miles on it and don't have any creeks or rattles. As far as the leather smell I still have that....I use McGuire's leather conditioner on it.

Its not really rattles of creeks, its the plastic door panels. and I hear it on the back roads more, highway driving it is not noticeable.

I don't know where you live, but I live in Florida and the roads are pretty smooth here. I've driven it to MA this past spring and didn't have any rattles or creeks out of the door panels. It is a Florida truck so exposure to rough roads is very little. A doctor owned it before I did and I don't imagine that he did much 4 wheeling. Since I've owned it I've never been off road with it. I know that the doctor used to have it serviced at the HUMMER dealership, and he drove it to Atlanta GA at least once a month. So most of the miles on my H2 are highway miles.

I'm in Texas and i also notice in the mornings it has very little noise, but when it heats up like yesterday 104 deg. here it has more noise. and yes the roads are a little rougher to get to my house. country F.M. roads.

My 03 door panels and center console door squeaked and rattled over rough roads. The 06 I just bought seems to be much quieter.

HumminNBoatin 08-27-2009 02:23 PM

Mine are pretty quiet for the most part. On rough roads I hear noise but I could also be the handheld CB or Winch controller cable I keep in the drivers door pocket.

I get a few creeks from my door panels on rougher roads..its farily common on the H2's. I heard about people taking them off and using double sided tape to really hold them on

BIGT2148 08-27-2009 06:22 PM

How do you get a door panel off SAFELY??? I may try to do the double sided tape thing!

mfish 08-28-2009 12:59 PM

I'm not exactly sure how to get them off..but more then likely you will break some of the plastic clips so I would have some extra ones handy if you do remove them

Ridicrick 08-28-2009 04:25 PM

My 03 squeaks too and it drives me crazy. I usually crank up the stereo to not hear the squeaks but I know for sure its my passenger front door panel and rear left door panel thats doing it, especially if someone is leaning on it. I will be removing them later this week to install new speakers so I will post pictures on how many clips I break. LOL And I even have a clip removal tool I bought for $9 online.

I have been in 03 and 04s with only 20k miles and the creeks were horrendous. My 05 and 07 had them even at 4k Mmiles when it got colder outside (New England), but nothing like the older ones. I know the interiors look the same but it has to be something else. The 08-09's are put together much much better and I do not forsee that happening...

Help

I have an 07 h2 and cracks on both of the plastic side door pannels in the front, they rattle pretty bad, can i replace those plastic pieces without the whole pannel? where can i get them? is it 2 pieces ?leather pannel and then the plastic pocket?

Pauldy 03-03-2011 06:13 PM

I looked into replacing just the arm rest on my '03 and discovered aside from the control unit in the door everything else is sold as a single unit. Light bulb went off in my head and I JB welded everything else that moved on the door. No more rattles from the door, still not sure what to do about the center console mine still rattles every now and then.

Caraddict 03-03-2011 08:23 PM

No rattles yet...I only have 25,000 miles

MVR 155 03-04-2011 07:38 AM

Our 2006 had a fair amount of creaks/rattles, nothing horrendous but the 2008 is waaaaay better, everything is put together with a much more solid feel, most of the hard molded plastic has been replaced with softer touch materials.... its definately far more refined.

The door panels are fairly easy to get off...I just did it last week to fix a loose handle bar. There is one screw to take out behind the interior door handle and then two bolts behind the plastic cover you remove after taking the screw out. Then just work your way around the edges to pop out the retainers....then before removing the panels completely, ,remove the wiring connectors. That's it :) I remember seeing a good write up somewhere on this as well. Indy

Other common rattle noises come from the two plastic outer black pillar covers. Usually when your windshield has been replaced. Some people just need to remove them via two screws on side under rubber seal and add double sided tape. Also the large two roof marker lights loosen up over time. Retighten the screws or add double sided tape or some kind of sealant and that should help aswell.

Ok, after rebuilding my entire rear end I can add something to help. It appears as if GM used really thin pieces of adhesive felt. It's palced in between areas where plastic can rub allowing it to travel preventing further flexing but eliminates any noise it might create.

FASTORANGEZ 03-26-2011 01:09 AM

I'm a big stereo guy and my 03 obviously rattled like crazy plus it had 80K when I bought it. I removed all of the door panels and the rear hatch panel and added hush mat to everything (its a knock off of dynamat at about 1/3 the cost, buy it from summit) if installed properly where any plastic rubs metal your noise will stop.
I just sold the 03 and bought an 08 and OMG what a difference from the factory. As soon as I get a system ready to install im going to cover everything in it to hopefully keep it quiet.

I've had my 2003 H2 with 150k miles for just about a month now, and the cracking, squeaking interior KILLED me. So I went to work on them. I took them all off and flipped them over on a table (one at a time). I bought a bunch of plastic epoxy and placed it around all the connection plastics that make up the interior door. Over time the seams pop on the plastic welds that the hummer doors have. So re-enforcing them help out alot. Almost no cracking noises at all (from the doors). No idea how long it will last but its working well right now.

I had an idea tho. If you removed all the panels then scuffed up the plastics you could probably lace the back of them with fiberglass to make them wicked strong. Just an idea :D

My 2008 is really quite. We laughed when we first bought ours, that is was as quite as a Cadillac.
