Guage Faulty?
 

Curious for your thoughts....
Since I bought my 2008 H3 I have noticed that the temp guage does not stay constant during warming periods. Today, the outside temp got up to 107 degrees and while running the AC the guage increased to the point shown in the link http://i1075.photobucket.com/albums/...0916345932.jpg
Temp coolant showed a highest point of 215.6 degrees. Normally, under outside temps of around 93 degrees the coolant temp hovers between 194 (driving) and 204 (stop and go in town). Obviously, it is not in the red but from what I have read most H3s stay pretty much exactly on the mid point?

I have searched the archives here and read a lot of information...it appears that I have a faulty guage?

I5 or V8? May Alpha pretty stays the same all the time. Our I5 gets hotter on days like that.

It is an I5.

Flush the system, it's that time of the year anyway. See what happens, if not, your thermostat could be getting suck and need replacing.

Try pulling the temp sender unit out and clean the tip/node with stell wool or green scruby.
Converesly you could replace it and tstat/fluid.

mine goes a bit over midway... with heat and A/C... sometimes half way between half and 3 quarters uphill with A/C... in winter no problem... i think your reading is normal.from what i see in the pic...

You will find that the OEM temp gauge is nothing more than an idiot light with a needle. Your pic is completely normal for a hot day, looks about like mine yesterday when we hit 100. I would not bother with flushing or changing coolant. Relax and enjoy the ride.

215F is no concern. Overheat protection doesn't kick in until 245F. The 3 will first shut off the A/C if it was on and display "AC OFF" in the DIC; then if temp still rises, display "ENG HOT" in the DIC and chime; then if temp does not fall, go into reduced power, all before reaching an actual overheat situation at 260F +.

I've had mine read just under the red when wheeling in 105+ temps, usually just when sitting and letting it run though

Other threads on this topic say they don't hit the mid point,i never have either.Yesterday in 103 f temps,driving slow/in town,idling in a parking lot,i never hit midway.
The air struggled to keep me cool. I parked it in the shade at home and have not been out since.
The guage is I think,pretty accurate,or should be. It's driven by electronics from data from the computer. Not your grandads old electric only gage!
I'd like to see guages backed up by idiot lights for critical stuff like temp and oil pressure.
