Default General Motors Performance parts....

I was wondering if any of you guys are running the GM performance intake and exhuast. If so, whats the power and sound like ? I have done a few searches, and I know a few members here are using them.

Also, is there any sort of dyno results for these parts that demonstrate actual proof that these parts make power, or is this just more GM hype ? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question, but it's been my experience in the past that paper filters are not good for making more power, and it's also been my understanding that metal intake tubes are not good for performance due to heating issues.

I'm sure somebody does/has??? Anybody???? [&o]

The GM exhaust is way ++ overpriced, and tips are not included, have to pay extra for those. If it were me, and I was gonna spend
that much, I would do a Borla CAT back first. I really like my MagnFlow system, and it was half as much as the GM versions. GM does not make theirs,
it is farmed out to a major exhaust mfger and stamped with GM apart #.

The GM performance intake......overpriced IMO. All is not what you think, you get a chromed aluminium
airfilter box lid, and a 3" plasti chromed (dual bend) pipe, with a foam non-oiled filter.

I also have to add, that a very common misconception is that metal (aluminum or steel) intake tubes somehow heat up???
Easy concept learned in our youth, just inaccurate as it relates to the functionality of a street driven vehicle's intake.
Air flow and volume are critical, as is the temp of the intake charge at the INLET of the intake. The speed at which your
intake charge enters the system and then travels to the throttle body is PDQ! I am not going to bore you with measurements
and data, but you can drive down the road/off road for hours in 90+ heat and jump out, whip open your hood, and grab hold of
a closed system metal pipe (GM, True Flow,AirDoc others)and it will be warm at most. If on the highway, where they do their
jobs best, they will be cool....w/in 2-3 degrees ambient temp.

If you like the chrome look of the GM Performance intake, and want to throw down that $$, you will be happy, but there are better for less.

Good luck and enjoy the forums.

Thanks for the response Doc. I agree that the GM parts are way overpriced. There is no question in my mind about that. The only reason why I was considering them is due to the fact that my H3 is still under warranty (and will be until 2010), and I didn't want to do anything to interfere with the warranty. The most I was considering doing was an aftermarket intake and catback system, as well as some decent plugs besides the platinum poopers, and synthetic fluids all around.

Anyhow I can comment by personal experience with aftermarket intakes. I once had a BBK cold air intake kit on my 01 Mustang GT, and then, I switched to a K&N FIPK unit. The BBK utilized a metal inlet pipe with chrome plating. It got so hot you couldn't touch it, where as the inlet tube of the K&N being plastic, would heat up, but you could still touch it, and it wouldn't burn you.

Ah yes, but notice that I said "closed system" and BBK is and "open" system.

That is why I am not a fan of open systems made of whatever material.

A CAT back or intake will not void your warranty. NO person at the dealership can void your warranty, only a GM employee can
void the warranty, and ONLYif they can prove your aftermarket product caused whatever defect that needs fixin. However, I do
see your point, and nothin wrong with wanting to avoid any potential headaches no matter what the risk.

I bought the GM Hummer exhaust made for GM by Billy Boat for about $500.
I love it!! Plus it's cover under your GM warranty.
