Default Gear Shift Button

The button on the Gear Shift handle is loose

I have a replacement.

Does anyone know how to take the button off or is it easier to change entire shifter?

I've never seen a thread of any hummer forums of someone taking the handle apart. Not saying it can't be done but with as rare a piece I don't know if I would risk trying to take it apart myself without knowing exactly how.

Turn the key so you can pull the handle down into the lower gears (truck does not have to be running) and you will see an allen screw inside the vertical portion of the handle. You don't need to take the screw all the way out just back it out enough and the handle will slide off vertically.

It's a torex screw but make sure you get it really tight when putting it back on or you will get movement in the handle.

oops you're correct it is a torx however you don't want to overtighten it. Snug is good.

I had the same issue with the one tab broken off. They will snap back in when they are both good, so I would think you could pull the button straight out. I just carefully crazy glued my button back in to the white plastic inside the handle. It's worked for this month
