Front tow hook removal?

;) Need help.....Adding a factory brush guard to my H3....I removed the tow hooks and bolts from the tow hook back plates. I was expecting the plates to drop off like my Rubicon but low and behold they did not and they still seem to be attached to the frame some how? I did not have more time today to see what was going on but does any one know what is up with their removal so I can get my brush guard on? Thanks in advance ;)

That was your first mistake thinking it was like a JEEP..[sm=joke.gif]

You mean after you removed the two 18MM bolts in both plates?....Right?

There is a Torx head screw in the center of the Tow hook plates, that also has to come out...Only on the front ones..rear one doesn't have the screw.

Dennis

Thanks for the info........Yes I took the 18mm bolts of the plates...........Do you know how to access this torx bolt? It is not from the front of my plates nor from anywhere else that I can see from the back.....At this point I am assuming I have to start taking the bumper and header panel off to access the torx bolt? Thanks in advance....................

Here is a picture of the front, showing the Torx head screw in the center...

And here is the backside..Maybe if you don't have the screw, then a short dowl pin as seen in this picture maybe all that is holding your's on..Give it a good tug..maybe it is rusted on is all.

Hopefully this is a better pic that shows I have no access from the front. I have an early H3 and maybe they changed it mid production....

There can't be anything else holding it on then..Just give it a rap with a hammer and a block of wood to jar it loose...Because that looks just like the rear one on mine and it was slightly stuck on after I removed the two bolts...Watch your toes![:o]

It is definitely bolted on. I managed to pry it out a little bit and can see threads from a bolt from behind the bumper. Looks like I have a big project ahead of me this weekend!

there's another bolt behind that plate, you have to remove the entire bumper. It took me 4 hours to install my SMA HD Brushguard, learned it all from the other forum (H3source.com).
