Free GPS? Has anyone tried?
Has anyone tried to mod the onstar to get free GPS witha computer/laptop? I have seen on the internet a few older onstar units getting modified.
Here is one: http://members.cox.net/onstar/ |

A GPS price now is what? $30-40? Probably would be better to just buy one than to mess with the onstar system and spend all the time doing that.
It is a cool proof of concept however. |

How good are the cheap ones?

They should do the job just fine. Some cheap (and some expensive) models are not very good, however, you can always search up the model number to see other's reviews on the product. Many out there are very affordable and are very good buys. |

Seriously- look at the Garmin line. I have the C320, which at the time was only like $399, and it is AWESOMELY accurate. I loaded the complete US on it, and right now I am in Denver, CO and will be driving back to NH next week in a rental- and because its removable, I could bring it with me. It has pretty much every rest stop, shop, whatever I will want along the way. I use it almost every day and have yet to find it inaccurate.
