Default Engine oil level question

I have a 07 H3 with the 3.7L engine. I have owned it about a month. I checked the engine oil and it showed to be about 1/2 inch about the full hot level with a cold engine. I thought perhaps they put to much oil in it from the recent oil change at the used car dealer so I decided to change it myself to be sure. I measured the drain oil and it was about 5 1/4 qts not counting what is in the filter that I removed. I put back 6 qts with a new filter and it still shows about an 1/2 over the full hot mark. Has anyone else had this issue?

Not sure but it should take 6qts. Maybe check to see what oil filter they have in there and if it's bigger or smaller than what it should be, although I think smaller would make oil register higher? Good luck.

Oops just saw that you changed the filter. Not sure then what happening, sorry.

Yeah I was thinking that also about the dip stick being off but it is way off. When yours shows a little over the full mark, is that the hot mark or the cold mark which is much lower on the stick?

6qts with filter change= F on the indicator.

The indicator (aka: dipstick) shows: LxxxxxxxxxxF

L= Low on oil
xxxxx=Safe range
F= Full of oil

OK mine looks different so I wonder if it's the wrong dip stick. Mine is like this starting with a loop on the end.
bottom metal loop > 0===l cold l====o hot o =========== top of stick with a flip lock. The o on each side of the word hot, is a hole in the stick. The = marks represent the metal stick. I just checked the oil and it is an inch above the top hole at the hot mark.

You are looking at the trans fluid not engine oil. The engine oil stick is over to the right passed the intake manifold closer to the battery and has a yellow pull ring on the top.

To check either of them, your vehicle should be on level ground.

also:
Check engine oil with engine off.
Check trans fluid with engine running.

Boy do I feel like a dummy. Thanks Doc. I was checking the wrong stick. I guess the things that were throwing me was the trans fluid is dark like engine oil and that's the first oil stick I've seen that looks like a flexible wire. Mine has just over 100k mile so I better change it soon.
