Engine cooling fan is extremely loud when accelerating
I had some A/C work recently done on my 06 H3 where they said one of the problems was that I needed to replace the fan clutch. Since the service, the fan blows extremely hard when accelerating and is very very loud. When traveling uphill at highway speed, the engine downshifts as normal, but the fan kicks in and gets very loud, almost sounding like a leaf blower. When the engine up shifts, the blowing goes away and repeats the symptoms when climbing hills. Has anyone experienced this and know what the problem is???

Ahhh possible fan clutch?

That's what I'm thinking but it was replaced in June. The tech said I would notice the fan noise but this sound is crazy loud.

Yep. It gets loud when fully engaged.

The truck was very quiet when I bought it. Maybe it was not right then and is how it should be now. I definitely liked the quieter ride though. I'll have to get it checked out though to be sure.

Depending on the brand of fan clutch they put in you probably got a severe duty fan clutch which means it will be louder but in return you will not be over heating. If you don't like it you can ask the shop if a standard duty fan clutch is available.

Thanks for the reply LS, I'm not sure what type of clutch they put in. The loud blowing sound has gone away and I'm back to running whisper quiet. The only exception is when first starting to drive. The fan blows loud but stops before I leave the neighborhood, which I hear is perfectly normal.
