You guys go ahead and install those non-waterproof fans. I think I will stay with the one GM provided that won't die when I submerge it under water.....Hehe

electric fans will not die in water....quite the opposite, you can go through MORE water with an electric fan....simply because you can shut it off and not spray water around the engine compartment like you would with a belt driven fan. Jeep guys have been doing this for YEARS!!! Especially the old cj's that never cooled worth a crap.

Yep, I always put in a manual switch to shut it off on off road vehicles. Never fails though, they always have died on me shortly after -for some reason. Maybe they have gotten better over the last couple of years, who knows.... Now that I have gotten older, I try to stay with what's reliable.

Buzz, This is on my list of Horse Power Mods for sure. I have a PCM for Less and a Gibson Exhaust so far. Next are AirCleaner, them maybe Electric Fans and or Underdrive Pulley if available yet. I have found some good reading on these at the Colorado/Canyon Forums site. It is the same engine afterall and they have quite some test time on some of these mods already. Not sure about the Radiator size compatibility. I didn't have time right now to check for any specific links but I will try to find the one I was looking at later.

Sorry for being remiss in responding but been traveling.Great postings and insights. Thanks for all the info Doc. I would like to do a double fan if room permits or at least one with a large shroud to get more air pulled in (around 3000 cfm). Most have a universal mounting and I am a bit leary of "universal" anything. Not like we have a Pep Boy here so have to choose wisely before ordering. I think a 16" will fit as requires about a 4" depth (with no shroud). I will ponder some more while wheeling in the Sinai this weekend.

I'm bumping this back up.
Our radiators are 24" wide. The biggest E Fan Summit Racing has is 16". It moves 3,000 CFMs. The fan can either push or pull.

Does anyone have any idea how much air(CFMs) we need?. We would probably want to mount these on the motor side of the radiator and pull air since that side is more accessible. I think you can remove the stock fan and shroud. The E Fans have their own shrouds. These are 10 blade 10 amp motors. I'm not sure on the mounting but it's not the zip ties. Fans are $96

So what else can someone add? This should be a reasonably easy job. It should increase HP and MPG
