ECU TUNING/Power Restriction

Has anybody looked into getting the ECU remapped to reduce power and improve gas mileage ? I honestly think on British roads i could lose up to 100bhp without suffering much at all . I love the 6L V8 roar and the surge of power that comes with it but i only end up braking again within a 100 yards . I intend to speak to the experts tomorrow but i've also wondered if a rev limiter could be programmed into the ECU .

Yes i know you don't buy a Hummer to save on fuel but hey i'm in the UK where gas/petrol costs about $2.12 a litre so its worth a try .

Any comments ?

A much easier method would be to keep your foot out of the gas. I mean reprogramming to reduce power is one of the craziest things I have every heard. Increasing power reduces the struggle the engine makes to get these heavy beasts moving. No one is saying you have to smash the gas pedal to get to the next light.....

Can't help it motorcycles are my first love but i can't ride anymore due to an accident and a 6L V8 is on average 4 times the size of the typical European car . That said most modern European cars are getting 60 to 70 mpg (due to the ludicrous cost of fuel in UK) , my diesel Landcruiser gets at least 20mpg even with 33" tires and it's had the fuel turned up , K&N high flow filters , 3" oversized exhaust , i've upped the boost on the turbo

And the answer from the pro's is "sorry if it was a diesel we could do it but with a petrol all we can do is add power which will lower mpg further"
