Dimming Lights

Hey guys, Im new to the forum. I recently bought a 2006 H3. I noticed when coming to a stop, my lights will dim for a second. Any ideas what could b e causing this? Thanks for the input

Normal for the H3. The programming of the electrical system cuts alternator output when it senses a lessor load. There are several threads on this.

Could be voltage drop from hitting your brakes, could be a battery going bad, could be your alt going bad....

Check the voltage on your battery with the truck off and make sure its between 12-12.6v. Being on the lower range of that scale means your battery is discharged somewhat.

With the truck on check your voltage, a properly working alternator should be putting out between 13.5v to 14.5v at idle.

If both things check out replace your battery terminals, the OEM ones suck hard.

Yep, the PCM senses the electrical load while driving, and when demand is low it will reduce the output from the alternator to decrease its load on the engine as one of many fuel saving measures. When you come to a stop at idle there is a slight lag from the time the PCM commands the alternator to juice back up and when in fact it reacts to that command.

There could be other contributing factors, but that much is normal.

Thanks guys for all the info. I will have to get the battery and alternator load tested just to be sure. Ill look into changing the terminals. And i hope this isa a normal thing for H3s!

Normal for the H3. 3 - 08 H3s and an 09 H3T, they ALL do it.
