Default digital camera / camcorder advice

my old phone had a camera which did a pretty good job, but my new phone has no camera at all, and i can't take any pics, so i need to go camera shopping.

any advice on what brand to get, or what specs are important?

go for the NIKON 4300. excellent stuff. Easy to use and reliable

main issues:
effective megapixels (mini 4.0)
zoom (3x is a bare minimum)
scene mode (as many as possible)

side issues
screen size
video capabilities

There is an article in the current Consumer Reports about digital cameras....was pretty good. You might want to pick up a copy.

i have a nikon coolpix 4100, and i love it..it takes decent (but somewhat grainy) video, and with a 256mb card, it will hold a couple thousand pictures at computer screen size...it also has a built in memory, and while small, it allows you to avoid buying a memory card. i previously had a coolpix 2100...

i also have a JVC hard drive video camera...its good, but it was expensive...

i will say that i know very little about performance numbers, specs..etc..i buy based on what does what i need them to do.

ive spoken to a few professional photographers, who dont like my camera for one reason or another, but i rely on my cameras for work, and of the 900+ pictures that i took at the NAIAS last year, i cannot see any difference between the quality of the pictures that i took and the pictures in magazines...

salesmen should have to reveal their commission and storep rofit on different items to let us consumers make more informed decisions. (that's sort of related to my camera shopping attempts)

Patrick, can you post a pic you took with your camera? if that's a pain, forget it, but if you have one handy that would be cool.

Same for the rest of you folks (or if you have posted pics, just say what camera they were taken with)?

thanks again you guys

here is a picture that i took this past weekend...its big, and its about middle resolution setting...then one of the new dodge challenger concept outside, also in mid resolution...and one of the challenger concept on its platform at the NAIAS, in low resolution ....its in low res, because i was trying to get as many pictures as possible on press day, and i managed to get about 1000 pictures for articles and such.

in high resolution, the pictures are so big, that they exceed the batch limit...[:@]

sorry about the watermark, i have problems with picture piracy...[&:]
